Job Summary

Description

Responsible for installing programming and maintaining emergency and communication equipment in agency vehicles and specialized units. Duties include mounting lights sirens radios antennas and speed measuring devices; designing custom configurations and electrical systems; and servicing LED message boards. The role also manages radio equipment issuance removal of gear from decommissioned vehicles and warranty coordination. As essential personnel the position requires availability during emergencies and extended hours during disaster response.

Duties

Install and mount emergency equipment to include emergency lights light and siren controller sirens speakers rifle racks police radios antennas flash lights computer stands and other related hardware in all vehicles purchased for the agency.
Programs siren controller emergency light flash patterns.
Instruct deputies regarding the operation of emergency equipment.
Install and remove speed-measuring equipment (RADAR LIDAR) in vehicles as necessary.
Service diagnose and repair all LED Message Boards owned/operated by the agency. Purchase replacement parts and perform tests and repairs as necessary. Service and repair message boards for Clay County Public Safety as required.
Install and assist other units in the agency to install equipment in the command post SWAT Tactical Operations Center and other specialty vehicles related to the Radio Units purview such as satellite data equipment uninterruptible power supplies and radio communication stations.
Design and create equipment mounting configurations for new types of vehicles for which a standard layout and configuration does not exist. Fabrication of mounting brackets and produce creative solutions to accomplish this end as necessary.
Design and build electrical systems in new vehicles as necessary incorporating vehicle electronics or interface modules as necessary and interfacing such things with the aftermarket electronics installed.
Serve as essential personnel for the agency and perform duties related to this rating including being placed on a stand-by status during natural disasters such as hurricanes and work extended hours during disaster periods to staff the Radio Unit facility 24 hours a day.
Removal of all equipment from decommissioned vehicles in preparation for their disposal and auction.
Services diagnose and repair emergency equipment in vehicles and modification of existing installations depending on the needs of the agency.
Arrange for warranty repairs of affected equipment.
Issuance of radio equipment receive returned radio equipment and replace faulty radio equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience related to electronics electronic installation and programming or equivalent experience.
Proficiency in reading writing and understanding the English language.
Proficient in Microsoft office products
Extensive knowledge of the principles and theory of 24/12 VDC and electronics
Must possess fabricating ability
Knowledge of standard tools materials methods and testing electronic devices
Physical agility to lift medium to heavy objects and to stoop bend climb and reach while working on or installing electronic equipment
Ability to interpret the work from technical sketches schematics and diagrams
Must be able to follow instructions
EVT LE1 certification is required within 2 years of date of hire.
Possession of a valid Florida Drivers License

Supplemental Information

Salary is negotiable for full-time positions prior to initial hire if requested based on verified experience up to step five (5) of the assigned pay grade. Current employee salary changes are determined based on internal methodology. Please contact Human Resources with any questions.
