Position Description

Please note:
This position will be funded by a grant which is expected to fund the position through September 30 2026. At that time the position will either be continued by a new grant continued by conversion to a permanent position or discontinued.

Definition
Incumbents will be assigned to the Technical and Surveillance Squad (TASS) and will perform a variety of technical and analytical work involving video management systems computer networking and surveillance system design and implementation in a law enforcement setting. Incumbents will work in support of department projects and programs as they relate to the deployment of law enforcement technology utilized by Fusion Watch and the Southern Nevada Counter-Terrorism Center (SNCTC).

Distinguishing Characteristics
This position serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff and is not subject to the competitive requirements of the Civil Service Rules of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Incumbents are assigned to the Homeland Security Division in the Southern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center (SNCTC) serving under the supervision of the Technical and Surveillance Squad (TASS) leadership.

Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direction from supervisory and management staff. May exercise technical and functional supervision over clerical and technical staff.

Minimum Qualifications/Position-Specific Conditions

Best Candidates Will Have

  • Three years of increasingly responsible professional work experience preferably in a public agency setting with technical experience involving video management systems (VMS) computer networking and surveillance system design and implementation.
  • A Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major course work in Information Technologies Computer Science Business Administration or equivalent relevant work experience and/or technical certifications.
  • Milestone VMS Experience.
  • Milestone Certified Integration Technician (MCIT) Certification.
  • Experience working in a law enforcement or military setting.
  • Video surveillance system design and implementation experience.
  • Project Management Experience.
  • Vendor Management Experience.
  • Experience with wired and wireless computer networks.
  • Milestone certificates MCIE and MCDE is strongly recommended or be acquired within one year.
  • Working knowledge with Windows Server and virtual server environments.
  • Working knowledge with Layer 2 and 3 IP networking.


Conditions of Position

  1. Be a citizen/naturalized citizen or permanent resident alien without conditions on status of the United States of America by the closing date of the announcement.
  2. Be at least 18 years old by the closing date of the announcement.
  3. Participate in the LVMPD Mental Wellness Program.
  4. Sign a Confidentiality Agreement when assigned agreeing to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  5. Must be able to attain a Department of Justice/DOD security clearance to retain the position when requested.
  6. Be available for on-call technical support when requested.
  7. Personal Appearance:While on duty and/or representing the Department uniformed or otherwise all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching affixing or displaying objects articles or jewelry on or through the nose tongue eyebrow or other exposed body part except the ears for females while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or gauging their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing. Markings that cannot be covered by clothing will be covered using neutral-toned bandages or patches except for hands neck head or face tattoos.Makeup is not permissible to cover a tattoo. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination indecency extremist or supremacist philosophies lawlessness violence or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
  8. Environmental Conditions:Combination of office and outdoor work environment sometimes in extreme weather conditions. Exposure to computer screens cellular devices and wireless networking equipment.
  9. Physical Conditions: Sitting/standing for extended periods of time; walking; able to carry 40 lbs of equipment; traverse ladders; work in confined awkward and elevated locations; operate man lifts bucket trucks and tow a trailer.

Candidates areencouraged to consult with their personal physicians to discuss whether the polygraph will affect a condition or treatment and then follow the guidance of their medical professional.

The background investigation takes approximately 90 to 120 days to complete. You must also meet the LVMPD Hiring Standards.
