If you are looking for a rewarding career please consider the opportunity to apply for the Correctional Food Service Supervisor position located at Craggy Correctional Center minimum unit in Asheville NC which houses approximately 200 minimum security custody male offenders.

Employees in this class are responsible for supervision of Correctional Food Service Officers and providing oversight of inmates performing large-scale food production at minimum custody prison facilities. The work involves the supervision of the preparation and service of regular and therapeutic diets for the inmate population. Employees plan direct and supervise the daily preparation and serving of food to inmates. Work includes: food preparation and serving storage menu planning menu planning using substitutions maintaining sanitation requirements and related record keeping. Employees use a computerized food and nutrition system to prepare and serve daily meals.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Management Preferences:

  • Documented knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities.
  • Documented supervision of Employees/Inmate Workers

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC07. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services in management of a commercial food service operations or as a Correctional Officer or one year as a Correctional Food Service Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
