Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health is currently seeking two IT Trainers to join our Office of Information Management. The IT Trainer supports the design and delivery of IT training programs that promote digital literacy and enhance the use of enterprise systems across VDH. This position assists in developing instructional materials facilitates training sessions for staff and provides user support to ensure effective adoption of technology tools aligned with public health initiatives. The IT Trainer collaborates with senior trainers and subject matter experts to maintain consistency in training content and delivery. This position requires the candidate to reside within a reasonable commuting distance to Richmond Virginia.

Some of the key job responsibilities are as follows:
Support the design delivery and continuous improvement of IT training aligned with organizational needs.
Develop clear userfriendly training materials such as guides presentations and job aids.
Lead or assist with training sessions across virtual hybrid and inperson formats.
Help administer training needs assessments to identify skill gaps and improvement opportunities.
Contribute to workforce development by helping staff build digital literacy and confidence with IT tools.
Assist in creating user documentation and enterprise application guides.
Draft and update knowledge base articles with guidance from senior staff.
Support initiatives that enhance IT processes and promote effective technology use across the agency.

Minimum Qualifications

Prior experience supporting or delivering IT training programs preferably in a public health or government setting.
Experience developing basic instructional materials such as job aids user guides or presentation decks to support learning and development.
Ability to train individuals and small groups in virtual hybrid and in-person environments using clear user-friendly language.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Familiarity with interactive instruction techniques classroom facilitation and tools such as TRAIN ServiceNow or similar platforms.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team members and subject matter experts to support training goals.
Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Office Suite including Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook OneDrive SharePoint and Teams.
Basic proficiency in tools such as Box Canva Adobe Acrobat and ServiceNow Employee Center.
Ability to create simple reports perform basic data entry or analysis and develop professional-looking presentations.
Comfortable using remote collaboration tools and providing virtual support or troubleshooting assistance.
Familiarity with web conferencing tools like Microsoft Teams for training delivery and team communication.

Additional Considerations

Exposure to help desk operations or ticketing systems such as ServiceNow ITSM or the VITA service portal is a plus.
Previous Healthcare IT Training Experience: Experience training public health professionals in IT systems.
Experience in supporting a Commonwealth of Virginia Executive Branch Agency
Knowledge and Experience working with Virginia Information Technologies Agency
