Capital Power is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our Canadian Renewables Team.

As a Senior Electrical Asset Engineer in Renewables you will be part of a dynamic group providing engineering design and technical guidance in a sound competent and technically professional manner across the fleet. Reporting to the Director Canadian Renewables you will be responsible for the delivery of day-to-day engineering and technical support for the renewables portfolio.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Using sound engineering principles and preparing technical solutions to complex and diverse problems related to wind and solar generation sites.
  • Evaluating the severity of damage priority of repair and potential root cause of failure for critical electrical equipment such as switchgear transformers inverters and protection and control devices.
  • Completing the failure analysis solution design and managing the execution of complex repair tasks.
  • Supporting the scope development execution and commissioning of sustaining capital and major projects.
  • Supporting the integration of newly constructed or acquired sites.
  • Supporting and coordinating other disciplines in the execution of their tasks.
  • Responding to real-time issues on sites to allow for safe and timely return to service of affected assets.
  • Developing technical recommendations regarding the disposition of assets approaching the end of their design life.
  • Supporting major maintenance issues and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Providing interpretation of codes regulations statutes and standards.
  • Reviewing understanding applying and developing internal operations maintenance and engineering guidelines procedures and standards.
  • Reviewing proposed changes and championing the management of change process.
  • Participating in the peer review process to ensure the responsible practice of engineering at Capital Power in compliance with the Professional Practice Management Plan.
  • Responding to change with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives.
  • Providing leadership mentoring and guidance to junior staff including students and/or EITs.
  • Participating in industry associations including sharing information and implementing best practices.
  • Acting continually to improve technical and management skillset through formal and informal training opportunities.

What you will bring to the role

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or Professional Licensee or Engineer-in-Training in Alberta.
  • Ability to be registered as a Professional Engineer in other Canadian jurisdictions.

Experience:

  • 8 years of engineering experience in Renewable Power Generation Power Systems or Heavy Industry.

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with software tools for managing configuring analyzing and automating power system relays and monitoring devices.
  • Familiarity with renewable generation equipment and AESO/NERC regulations preferred.
  • Project management or execution experience would be an asset.
  • Plant/field experience preferred.
  • Strong organization and communications skills (both written and spoken).
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Working collaboratively and building strong relationships with others.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and recommend timely decisions.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position.
  • Periodic travel to generation facilities for site work as required.
