As aGridPlanningIntern you will be supporting thework ofdistributionand transmission power grid planningwith the goal of providing excellent quality work for our clients.
This is a full-time 10-week internship that begins in early June2026.Work may be done remotely from any U.S. location or hybrid from our Reston VA office.At this time we are unable to provide relocationnorhousing assistance for this internship.Pay is expected to be $23 per hour for undergraduate interns and $28/hour for graduate interns.
AsaGridPlanningInternyou will:
Assistdistribution and transmission engineers with model building and performing studies in software like PSSE PSCAD CYME ETAP and others
Assistin design and development of renewable energy and synchronous generation sites and application to entities like ERCOT PJM MISO and SPP
Assistin developing short-term and long-term load forecasts
Conduct research on emerging technologies such ashyperscalersor AI-training data centers
Analyze data on capacities system loads and reliability metrics to support planning studies
Draft sections of planning reports including findings recommendations and technical analyses
Interns may or should have:
The ability to work with and understand technical concepts while also being able to communicate them to non-technical personnel
Strong organizational and time management skills
Strong capability to learn new technical concepts through independent research
Basic Qualifications:
By start date a minimum of 30 completed college-level credit hours ispreferably in engineering related fields
Preferred Qualifications:
A completed bachelors degree
Graduate level coursework in progress focused in electrical engineering or related fields
Electrical Engineering student with a focus on power systems
Advanced user of Microsoft products specificallyWord andExcel
Some coding experience using programs like Python orMatlab
