Title: Health Service Paraprofessional
Reports To: Building Principal and Chief Student Growth & Development Officer
Employment Status:Regular Non-exempt 230 days 7.5hrs per day
Qualifications:
- At the discretion of the Building Principal and the Chief Student Growth and Development Officer the Health Clinic Aide will be placed on the Health Service Paraprofessional salary schedule at their determination based on skill set training licensure/credentials and experience. Evaluation of salary schedule may be determined at any point by the Chief Student Growth and Development Officer.
- Pass all FBI & BCI checks

- CPR and First Aid certified

Position Summary:
Under general supervision the Health Clinic Aide performs special physical health care procedures and administers medication according to district procedure. Performs a variety of clerical tasks and related work as required in schools. Works within the framework of school law district rules and first aid standards. Works in collaboration with the District Nurse.
Essential Job Functions:
- Administer first-aid for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill and/or injured students.
- Recognize the first aid health needs and communicable diseases of students to make decisions as to appropriate solutions. (Contact school nurse when assistance is needed).
- Assist nurse students and other school personnel for the purpose of monitoring and delivering health services.
- Assist school nurse with vision hearing scoliosis screening and other required medical tests.
- Assist in the care of diabetic students.
- Maintains health office in a clean and sanitary condition (e.g. sinks counters equipment cots); maintain health equipment and supplies.
- Maintain electronic and paper files logs and records (e.g. medical emergency cards health records mandated screenings etc.) for the purpose of providing information required by legal and professional standards.
- Report suspected vision and hearing problems to the school nurse.
- Assist with the dispensing of medication according to a health care providers written orders.
- Contact parents and/or emergency facilities when appropriate.
- Prepare and maintain documentation (e.g. daily logs medication logs accident reports student visits and actions taken) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Provide information on health related issues for the purpose of instruction students and/or parents on various health subjects (e.g. lice personal hygiene).
- Refer students requiring further medical attention for the purpose of providing needed medical/dental treatment counseling etc. to the nurse and/or school counselor.
- Consult with the school nurse and local public health authorities when reporting students with contagious diseases for the purpose of minimizing infection and complying with the law.
- May assist other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Screen student records for proper immunizations; alert parents of needed immunizations and maintain communication until required records are provided; assure immunization records comply with State laws.
- Respond to inquiries of staff the public parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
- Serve as liaison between the school nurse staff parents and community.
- Supervise students in the office.
- Perform miscellaneous clerical and reception duties; prepare health bulletin boards.
- Daily communication with principal staff school nurse and parents as needed
- Knowledge of maintaining essential medications emergency action plans and procedures for district student medical conditions.
- Daily documentation of specific medical conditions and needs of current students including but not limited to diabetes G-tubes tracheotomy
- Assist in clinic area throughout the school day or as assigned
- Caring friendly and nurturing attitude in working with students parents and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality set priorities and work well under emergency situations with attention to details.
- Attend/participate in health and safety training as assigned by the district or school nurse.
- Assist with AED monthly monitoring.
- May be requested to work in any and all GHS buildings- flexibility is required.
- Interact with others in a professional respectful and courteous manner
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
- Other duties as assigned.
