This role is based at a mainstream primary school with a dedicated SEN provision in Kings Norton Birmingham. The school supports pupils aged 511 with complex learning needs autism ADHD speech and language difficulties and other SEN. Many pupils have EHCPs while others are supported at SEN Support level.
The schools SEN provision is designed to provide individualised support within a mainstream setting allowing pupils to access core subjects while receiving tailored interventions for social emotional communication and academic development.
The school adopts a holistic approach focusing not only on academic achievement but also on emotional wellbeing resilience and social skills. Staff collaborate closely with families therapists and external agencies to ensure continuity of support and positive outcomes for all pupils.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant you will support pupils both in-class and in small group settings helping them access the curriculum and develop confidence in their learning abilities. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to implement EHCP targets behaviour support plans and personalised learning strategies.
You will also support pupils during unstructured times including break lunchtime and transitions promoting positive interactions and helping children regulate emotions. Your role will include observation recording and reporting on pupil progress.
Provide one-to-one or small group support for pupils with complex SEN
Assist with implementing EHCP outcomes and personalised learning plans
Support pupils social emotional and behavioural development
Deliver interventions targeting communication literacy and numeracy
Promote positive behaviour and self-regulation strategies
Prepare learning materials and resources to support differentiated instruction
Record observations incidents and progress for SENCo review
Build trusting relationships with pupils and support their engagement with learning
Collaborate effectively with teachers parents and multi-agency professionals
Maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment
Ensure compliance with safeguarding and health and safety standards
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience supporting pupils with complex SEN including autism or ADHD
Be calm patient and resilient in challenging situations
Understand differentiated learning and personalised approaches
Possess excellent communication and teamwork skills
Have knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices
Hold a TA qualification (desirable)
