We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant for our EYFS and SEN provision in Bournville Birmingham. Our school provides education for children aged 35 in nursery and reception including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and additional learning support needs.
Our Early Years setting is fully inclusive fostering developmentally appropriate practice and play-based learning. We place a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing social interaction and holistic development. Staff work collaboratively to ensure children develop confidence communication skills and early academic foundations in a safe stimulating environment.
Children with SEN may have a range of challenges including autism spectrum disorders ADHD speech and language difficulties developmental delays and social-emotional needs. Staff are supported with training in autism awareness behaviour support strategies and early intervention techniques.
As a Teaching Assistant in EYFS with a SEN focus you will be responsible for supporting children in both group activities and one-to-one settings. You will work under the guidance of the EYFS Lead and SENCo to implement individual learning plans structured interventions and play-based learning opportunities.
Your role is critical in helping children develop social skills communication and early literacy and numeracy abilities. You will also support children in managing emotions interacting positively with peers and accessing the curriculum according to their individual needs.
Provide one-to-one and small group support for EYFS pupils including those with SEN
Assist in planning and delivering play-based learning and structured activities
Implement intervention programs for social emotional and academic development
Support pupils in developing self-regulation communication and independent learning skills
Observe record and monitor progress for all children sharing insights with teachers and SENCo
Collaborate with teachers parents and therapists to ensure continuity of support
Maintain a safe engaging and inclusive classroom and play environment
Support behaviour management using positive strategies and restorative approaches
Assist in transitions ensuring children move smoothly between activities lessons and learning areas
Promote a love of learning and curiosity ensuring all children feel valued and supported
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience supporting children in EYFS ideally including SEN pupils
Be compassionate patient and nurturing
Have knowledge of child development and play-based learning
Be confident in implementing interventions and structured support
Understand safeguarding requirements and child protection procedures
Communicate effectively with children colleagues and parents
Hold a TA qualification (desirable)
