The George Institute India
The George Institute a wholly owned legal not-for-profit Indian research institute has been conducting research related activities in India since 2002. The George Institute Indias mission mirrors that of the parent organization namely the discovery and implementation of solutions to chronic and disabling health problems through research policy development and capacity building.
A number of large-scale projects in population health systems and clinical research funded by a diverse group of sponsors both public and private are conducted in India. The George Institute India comprises two distinct operating groups: Research and Development and Infrastructure and Resources. It has two separate offices - in Hyderabad and New Delhi where the research staff and senior management are based.
Context and Role
The Assistant Research Manager will be part of the Research Strategy and Services Centre for Operational Research and Excellence (CORE) and play a key role in all aspects of new funding acquisition at TGI global office This includes coordinating RSS activities supporting capacity development efforts and ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of research-related databases through the below functions:
- Work with global research funding and support services group research teams project teams to identify new research funding opportunities. The responsibility includes tracking upcoming funding opportunities and supporting the development of high quality proposals for funding.
- Strengthen and maintain the research funding (pre-award and post-award) process flows and funding portfolio at TGI.
- Support internal peer review of applications for technical and financial portions of the application.
- Coordinate discussion meetings and capacity development workshops.
- Assist in preparing reports and maintaining funding databases.
Reporting Relationships
Directly reports to Research Manager India office.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
- The Assistant Research Manager would be expected to:
- Monitor funding organizations (National and international government and non-government) for open calls forecasts and communications relevant to upcoming opportunities globally.
- Review and summarize new opportunities and potential partnerships in alignment with TGI priorities and strategic plan. Conduct a baseline due diligence of the opportunities in alignment with TGI policies.
- Support the Research Manager in coordinating with research teams finance and admin to develop proposals. Be able to share timelines writing framework with team and distribute work for completion within timelines.
- Coordinate research team meetings and workshops and training programs and support the Research Manager as per need in these activities.
- With support from Research Manager assist researchers with creating budget drafts under guidance of finance personnel.
- Monitor and ensure responsiveness and compliance of proposals to the solicitation.
- Coordinate internal peer review of the proposals drafted prior to submission.
- Maintain a proposal calendar and monitor adherence to defined process and deadlines for technical proposals rosters proposal budgets quality standards for proposals. Manage proposal processes independently.
- Complete due diligence process post award and assist project team with timelines for deliverables on projects.
- Keep databases updated for reporting monitor quality of data create reports for the global office and coordinate with RSS heads in other regions.
- Contribute to special projects and initiatives managed by the team from time to time.
As a Team Member:
- Be responsible for coordinating meetings with global working groups. Share agenda record minutes and invite externals as needed;
- Keep the funding database updated. Collate information on all applications being developed and submitted in peer reviewed funding;
- Be able to provide updates/quarterly reports to Line Managers and Senior Management members regarding peer reviewed funding ;
- Participate in special projects to improve processes tools systems and organisation;
- Take responsibility for personal learning and development and for setting achievable and meaningful work objectives and managing personal targets meeting obligations of the Institutes Performance Management and Development Policy;
- Demonstrate commitment to GIs values including performing to an exceptionally high ethical standard and focus on integrity collaboration and teamwork in all efforts.
Work Health and Safety
- Comply with GIs Work Health and Safety Policy and related procedures and similar policies which apply when visiting the premises of affiliates and collaborating sites.

Skills Knowledge and Experience
- Qualifications: Masters/ Doctoral degree in health and allied field. Graduate degrees in other areas will be considered if applicant has more than 3 years experience in research administration in research and academic institutions.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in research administration in Health sector.
- Experience in grant writing and developing proposal costs/budgets.
- Demonstrated capability to manage multiple tasks with effective prioritization and attention to detail.
- Excellent practical knowledge of MS Office.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of proficiency in English and the ability to work well autonomously.
- Excellent team-work skills with demonstrated ability to collaborate in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility and to be adaptable to changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments.
- Strong focus on producing the highest quality of work and on ensuring optimum accuracy of outputs.
- Well organised and efficient with the capacity to work under pressure.
