The Team

Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabanks Corporate Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses.

The Role

GBME is searching for Senior UI Developers who are continuous learners and are eager to boost capabilities of capital markets products and analytics platforms. The role focuses on building reusable scalable robust components and front-end libraries for GBME applications.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical and engineering mindset. You will work closely with business teams and cross functional engineering leaders to develop and implement market leading solutions for the various projects within GBME.

In this exciting role youll apply your analytical skills to design and develop applications that deliver excellence effectiveness and value to our business partners and customers.

In partnership with peer engineers business partners and the various GBME teams you will:

• Translating designs and wireframes into high quality code
• Partner with Architecture on the design and integration
• Working closely with architect and other developers and product owner on software architecture design dependencies and codes maintainability
• Optimizing components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browsers
• Design test sets and automate where possible including functional and non functional testing regression testing as well as performance testing
• Support the solution in production (as needed)
• Improve the end user experience by finding scalable solutions and addressing complex ad hoc queries.
• Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
• Able to work with and refactor legacy code (as needed).
• Coach and train end users (as needed).
• Participate and run SCRUM Meetings (as needed).

Technical Qualifications

• 3 years of experience with and its core principles and React ecosystem JSX of react components life cycle.
• 3 years of experience with popular workflows (such as Flux or Redux) and data structure libraries (e.g. )
• 3 years of experience and Strong proficiency in JavaScript Fundamentals HTML5 CSS3 SCSS and newer specifications of EcmaScript (ES6) including DOM manipulation and the JavaScript object model
• 2 years of experience (1 or 2 recent projects) on front end optimization techniques such as Lazy Loading code splitting and memorization to improve front end performance Asynchronous Module Definition Callback and Promises Closures Image Compression
• 2 year experience and good knowledge of NodeJS (Yarn) to NPM registry libraries/packages.
• Fast learner to grasp latest React technologies

Nice to Have Qualifications

• Experience with Nx workspace or similar monorepo tools (Turborepo Lerna) including understanding of build optimization caching strategies and workspace library management
• Strong TypeScript experience including advanced types generics and type inference. Experience with Zod or similar schema validation libraries for runtime type safety
• Experience with Redux Toolkit (RTK) including RTK Query or TanStack Query for server state management. Understanding of normalized state patterns and efficient re-render optimization
• Experience with Material-UI (MUI v5/v6) or Ant Design including theming customization and building reusable component abstractions. Experience with CSS-in-JS solutions (Emotion Styled Components)
• Experience with React Hook Form for complex form validation and management including integration with schema validation (Zod) and controlled/uncontrolled component patterns
• Experience with enterprise data grid solutions (AG Grid TanStack Table or similar) for handling large datasets including virtualization custom cell renderers and advanced filtering/sorting
