Position Overview

Burlington High School is seeking a qualified and engaging SAT/ACT Prep Instructor to teach a short-term test preparation course for high school students. This course is offered free of charge to BHS students as part of the Counseling Departments commitment to equitable access to postsecondary opportunities.

The instructor will support students in strengthening math and reading skills developing effective test-taking strategies and building confidence for the SAT and ACT.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and deliver engaging well-structured lessons focused on SAT and ACT content strategies and pacing

  • Incorporate diagnostic tools and practice tests to assess and monitor student progress

  • Create a supportive and motivating learning environment for students with diverse academic backgrounds

  • Collaborate with the Counseling Department regarding curriculum review attendance and student progress

Qualifications

  • Prior experience teaching or tutoring SAT/ACT preparation courses strongly preferred

  • Background in education English mathematics or a related field

  • Teaching certification preferred but not required

  • Demonstrated ability to engage high school students and adapt instruction to varied learning styles

  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Schedule & Compensation

  • 6 sessions over 34 weeks beginning February 2026

  • Sessions held either:

    • Before school: 8:009:00 a.m. or

    • After school: 3:304:30 p.m.
      (Final schedule determined by instructor and student availability)

  • Compensation: Starting at $75 per session commensurate with experience
