About the branch:

The Wildland Fire Management (WFM) branch contributes to protection of people and property and the development of sustainable fire-resilient Yukon communities and infrastructure.

About the job:

The Mixmaster is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the regional airtanker base in support of wildland fire suppression activities during the wildfire season. This role ensures aircraft are safely and efficiently loaded with chemical retardant and fire foam maintains quality control standards and supports coordinated communication between air crews Air Attack Officers and regional fire staff.

In addition to airtanker base operations the Mixmaster is responsible for maintaining base facilities equipment inventories and safety and provides operational and logistical support to regional wildfire operations. During periods of lower fire activity the position assists with equipment maintenance facility upkeep training and other regional projects as required.

We currently have one vacancy in Whitehorse Yukon. Once this position is filled applicants from this posting may be utilized for Mixmaster positions in various jurisdictions across the Yukon.

What you need to consider before submitting your application: Essential Qualifications:

Essential Qualifications:
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet each of the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on small equipment
  • Experience performing basic mechanical work
  • Experience maintaining control of inventory
  • Experience working at an airtanker base or a fire attack base would be considered an asset
  • Mixmaster certification would be considered an asset

Candidates who have education training and/or experience equivalent to the above may be equally considered.

Additional Information:

Conditions of Employment:

  • Pass and maintain annual mixmaster certification training will be provided.
  • Pass and maintain Medical Clearance
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR C certification (wilderness first aid with CPR C also acceptable)
  • Valid Yukon Class 5 Drivers Licence (or equivalent)
  • TDG Air & Ground Certificate (within 2 weeks of hire - training provided)
  • WHMIS certificate (within 2 weeks of hire - training provided)
  • Restricted Radio Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification (ROC-A) (within 2 weeks of hire - training provided)


Job Requirements:

  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends with limited notice according to the standby schedule during the fire season or other emergency responses
