Job Description:
Casual Registered Nurse (RN In-Charge)
Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) and Director of Care (DOC)
The Registered Nurse (RN In-Charge) is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care clinical leadership and supervision of the care team during assigned shifts. The RN ensures resident care is delivered in accordance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act (FLTCA) professional standards of practice organizational policies and evidence-based practice.
Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop implement and evaluate individualized plans of care
Administer medications and treatments safely and in accordance with policies and legislation
Monitor resident conditions and respond promptly to changes in health status
Initiate appropriate interventions including emergency response when required
Complete accurate and timely documentation in PCC / EMR
Ensure timely physician notification and follow-up of abnormal findings
Act as RN In-Charge of the unit during assigned shifts
Supervise and provide guidance to RPNs PSWs and unregulated care providers
Assign duties appropriately based on scope of practice and resident needs
Support staff with clinical decision-making and problem solving
Address minor performance concerns in real time and escalate issues to ADOC/DOC as required
Ensure safe medication practices including narcotic counts documentation and audits
Monitor for medication effectiveness and adverse effects
Follow policies for controlled substances high-risk medications and PRN effectiveness
Ensure proper storage handling and disposal of medications
Adhere to IPAC best practices and outbreak protocols
Ensure staff follow hand hygiene PPE and isolation precautions
Participate in surveillance and reporting as required
Complete all documentation accurately objectively and within required timelines
Complete incident reports critical incident reports (CIRs) and internal documentation as required
Ensure care delivery aligns with regulatory standards and Ministry requirements
Participate in audits quality improvement initiatives and inspections
Communicate effectively with residents families physicians and interdisciplinary team
Provide education and support to residents and families
Escalate concerns appropriately to ADOC/DOC
Participate in care conferences as needed
Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
Current CPR (Health Care Provider level)
Experience in Long-Term Care preferred
Strong clinical judgment and leadership skills
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Sound knowledge of FLTCA LTC regulations and best practice guidelines
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Casual / On-Call
Shifts: Days / Evenings / Nights / Weekends as needed
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $38.63 to $44.62 with a maximum of $50.60.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
