What we are looking for:

As the Senior Environmental Officer you will be a primary source of expert advice on environmental and cultural heritage compliance across the Water & Waste Services directorate.

Youll coordinate regulatory requirements support strategic planning manage environmental risks and contribute to continuous improvement of Councils Environmental Management System.

This role suits someone who enjoys balancing field technical and strategic work while building strong relationships across the organisation and with external regulators.

What your day will look like:

  • Deliver expert guidance on legislation policies and procedures relating to water and sewage assets and support internal and external stakeholders with technical advice correspondence presentations and regulatory engagement.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance requirements for water and sewage facilities including approvals monitoring incident response and statutory reporting.
  • Identify and manage environmental and cultural heritage risks develop improvement strategies support compliance actions and contribute to the development of environmental risk improvement plans and proactive compliance programs.
  • Assist in developing strategic documents and frameworks (e.g. catchment management drought management water demand effluent and biosolids strategies) aligned with Councils Corporate Plan and legislative requirements.
  • Lead or support project management activities including scoping scheduling budgeting risk management consultant engagement contract management and the collection analysis and reporting of environmental performance data.
  • Develop and deliver environmental awareness programs and training support community and stakeholder engagement activities and provide environmental input into operational activities capital projects and organisational decisionmaking.

What youll need for success:

  • Tertiary qualification (AQF Level 7 or above) in environmental management science engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Considerable experience in environmental management including a detailed understanding of environmental legislation and its application in relation to water management.
  • Analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to formulate articulate and communicate solutions and ideas with all types of stakeholders.
  • Experience providing mentoring and technical support to others.
  • High level written and communication skills and effective interpersonal negotiation and listening skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and influence effective outcomes.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and increased workload and implement good time management skills to prioritise tasks and deliver reports and projects on time.

Licences:

  • Current Class C Queensland Drivers Licence
  • Construction Industry Induction (White) Card
  • Boat licence (desirable)
