Payroll Specialist (Onsite) South San Francisco

We are seeking a Payroll Specialist I to join a large California nonprofit dedicated to strengthening children youth and families across the this role youll help ensure that employees delivering essential community based services are supported through accurate timely and mission aligned payroll operations.

As the Payroll Specialist you will support payroll processing reporting and system accuracy working closely with the Payroll Supervisor Payroll Specialist HR and Accounting teams.

This is a direct hire hybrid position based in South San Francisco with two onsite days per week.

What Youll Do

  • Assist with semi monthly payroll processing

  • Audit timesheets troubleshoot discrepancies and partner with staff to resolve issues

  • Support adjustments garnishments manual checks and LOA compensation

  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports

  • Enter new hire data and set up timesheets

  • Process employee changes bonuses and separations

  • Maintain and update payroll and timekeeping systems

  • Respond to reporting requests from Accounting HR and field leadership

  • Collaborate with Accounting on GL and cost center coding

  • Manage mileage reimbursement uploads and annual calendar updates

  • Assist with year end GL and cost center changes across systems

  • Support onboarding systems with GL/cost center template setup

  • Contribute to special projects and administrative tasks as needed

What You Bring

  • Bachelors degree in accounting finance business or equivalent experience

  • 23 years of payroll experience

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills; advanced Excel (pivot tables VLOOKUPs)

  • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and collaborate across teams

  • Comfort working in a fast paced multi site environment

  • Ability to meet state background and licensing requirements

  • Experience in a nonprofit or mission driven environment a plus

  • Background supporting payroll across multiple locations preferred

Compensation $75000 $90000 plus competitive benefits.
