Class Code 28489: Therapist Aide
Transfer job postings are for County of Sacramento employees only.
In order to be qualified for a transfer:
1. You must meet the Minimum Qualifications of the new job.
2. The difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
There are three different transfer types that you may qualify for: interdepartmental transfer interclass transfer and voluntary demotion. These different transfer types are defined as:
- Interdepartmental transfer - a transfer in the same class from one County department to another.
- Interclass transfer - a transfer from one job class to a different job addition the difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
- Voluntary demotion - a transfer into a job class that pays less than 95% of your current class salary.
If you are requesting an interclass transfer or voluntary demotion either action is a change in class. Whether the change is a transfer or a demotion depends upon the difference between the maximum salary rates of the requested and incumbent classes. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.294 or the applicable labor agreement sets the criteria for determining the maximum difference allowed. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.228 defines demotion.
Under supervision the Therapist Aide assists Therapists in treating children with disabilities in a medical therapy unit in the California Childrens Services (CCS) program.Examples of Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of
- Basic office procedures including operation of modern office equipment
- Basic record keeping principles
- Principles and practices of customer service
Ability to- Follow verbal written and demonstrative instructions of a technical and professional nature
- Communicate with staff children with physical disabilities and their families
- Learn body structure and function therapy procedures/treatments and use of therapy equipment
- Use equipment and supplies to clean therapy equipment and rooms and do laundry
- Learn to construct simple therapy equipment and/or adapt equipment to childs disability
- Read write and speak English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance
- Develop and maintain cooperative effective working relationships with others including patients and school staff
- Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
- Learn interpret and apply applicable federal state and local laws codes regulations and guidelines related to medical therapy in the California Children Services (CCS) program

There are no education or experience requirements for this class.
General Qualifications
Criminal History and Background Checks:
The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment for this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602 Personnel Policies and Procedures B-5 and applicable federal and state laws. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidates ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained.
The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks credit history checks where authorized by Labor Code section 1024.5 Social Security Number verification professional license/registration verification military service information and driving history. Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection obtaining such information the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.
Child and Elder Abuse Reporting:
Persons selected for employment must as a condition of employment sign a statement agreeing to comply with Section 11166 and 11160 of the California Penal Code relating to child and elder abuse reporting.
License Requirement:
A valid California Driver License Class C or higher will be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class require the incumbents to be able to:
- Walk or stand for extended periods of time.
- Bend stoop kneel squat twist and reach at or above shoulder height.
- Lift carry push and pull items or patients up to 35 pounds without assistance.
- Lift and move children manually or mechanically; use own body mechanics to move limbs and body weight of children with physical disabilities.
Individuals who do not meet these requirements due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Working Conditions:
Some positions in this class require the incumbents to:- Travel locally to various work sites within Sacramento County.
- Work non-routine hours.
