Job Summary

  • Completion of a two-year diploma in an appropriate Engineering technological program such as Civil Structural Architectural Geological Engineering Survey or Landscaping Architecture Technology
  • Minimum of five years of experience related to the work assigned
  • Eligibility for recognition as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET

Assets:

  • Advanced technical knowledge of the Drainage Bylaw and Municipal Government Act
  • Familiarity with POSSE ePlan Google applications and EagleView software

Skills required for success:

  • Proficiency in civil engineering principles surveying and grading
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting complex grading plans stormwater management plans and Real Property Reports
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills tailored for diverse audiences
  • Strong project management skills from identification through to evaluation
  • Strategic problem-solving and analytical thinking to navigate multi-jurisdictional issues
  • Collaborative approach to building relationships with industry partners and internal teams
  • Customer service and conflict resolution skills - with the ability to manage and resolve confrontational situations on a continuous basis
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and re-prioritize high volumes of competing work
  • Ability to work independently and with a high degree of critical thinking ethical judgment and discretion

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement.

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • This role works primarily in an indoor setting
  • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs expectations and emotional states

Join the Development Services branch and play a vital role in shaping how our city manages surface drainage. We are looking for an experienced and collaborative professional to coordinate responses to high-level inquiries resolve complex development issues requiring collaboration with internal teams and EPCOR and to drive continuous improvement within the Lot Grading program

In this high-impact role you are the technical expert policy advisor and project manager for the Citys Lot Grading program ensuring effective surface drainage and long-term property protection across Edmonton. What will you do

  • Coordinate responses to sensitive and complex technical inquiries from City Council leadership and the public
  • Lead the resolution of challenging cross-departmental drainage issues and provide expert guidance on lot grading policies
  • Manage projects focused on program development technology enhancements and process improvements
  • Train and coach technical staff while auditing files to ensure high-quality service delivery
  • Maintain public-facing information resources including websites guidelines and technical brochures
  • Review and approve complex lot grading plans in alignment with the Drainage Bylaw and provincial legislation
