Job Description
The Department of Chemistry at Norfolk State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The department is a part of the College of Science Engineering and Technology and offers a diversity of options and tracks which lead to a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry visit We seek an accomplished teacher - scientist with a proven track record in teaching grantsmanship and experience at an institution with a profile such as Norfolk State. The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing NSUs research environment and contribute to the overall growth and success of the Departments plan for a new MS and PhD program. Review of Applications will begin February 10 2026 and continue until the position is filled. The selected candidate will begin August 2026. This position opened on January 12 2026 and there is a five consecutive workday minimum posting requirement.



Responsibilities
The successful candidates will join a cohesive faculty in the Department of Chemistry and share responsibilities in the management and oversight of the department educational program offerings. Additionally the successful candidates duties and responsibilities include teaching junior and senior level undergraduate lectures and laboratory courses advise and mentor undergraduate students contribute to grant-funded efforts and participate in departmental activities related to current and planned initiatives in support of the Chemistry programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Chemistry Inorganic preferred from a nationally accredited institution of higher education.
  2. Ability to teach junior and senior chemistry lectures and laboratory courses.
  3. Demonstrated record of accomplishments in scholarly activities in Chemistry.
  4. Skilled in the use of assessment instructional and online technology in support of students learning.

Additional Considerations

  1. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply evidence-based instructional approaches for effective learning.
  2. Demonstrated record of mentoring undergraduate students in research and in other discipline-relevant activities.
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate to a diverse student-body audience both verbally and in writing with emphasis applied to a commitment to diversity.
