Description of Work
Salary Range: $35984 - $62971Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
This position is located at Carteret Correctional Center in Carteret Co. NC. Employees in this class carry a caseload of inmates which involves supportive counseling conducting assessments developing case plans answering and following up on inmate questions and problems and making recommendations to the classification committee for a medium custody facility to include management of a minimum custody facility which is managed within the scope of the larger institution. Employees also assist in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of inmates such as inmate work assignments work release education or recreation as well as transition planning and coordinating. Employees in this class plan and coordinate transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. Effective verbal and written communication with other staff inmates and the public. Be capable of defending oneself against attack by violent persons. Monitor off site programs which may require operation of a motor vehicle in a safe and secure manner at any time of day and in varying weather and road conditions. Work under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive; Conduct continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area. Prepare written reports and forms which accurately reflect information reviewed from various screens. Review analyze and evaluate various documents and behavior data gathered from interviews written documentation and personal observation. Perform crisis interventions and routine counseling to include suicide prevention. This position requires basic keyboarding skills and the ability to learn and use the OPUS computer system.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associates degree in Criminal Justice Human Services Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.EEO Statement
