Job Summary

A large and well-established organization based in Brooklyn is seeking a Full-Time In-House Attorney to serve as a key legal leader supporting a workforce of approximately employees. This role plays a critical part in shaping and executing the organizations labor and employment law strategy while ensuring legal compliance across all departments.

The In-House Attorney will represent the organization in court and administrative proceedings manage employment-related litigation and handle regulatory matters at the federal state and local levels. The role will also lead efforts to revamp strengthen and oversee compliance policies and procedures organization-wide.

Working closely with the HR Director and senior leadership the attorney will provide legal guidance on employee relations disciplinary actions investigations collective bargaining issues terminations wage and hour compliance and other labor-related matters. The position requires a hands-on legal professional who is comfortable operating both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in labor and employment law is confident handling litigation independently and has strong communication skills to advise internal stakeholders. Occasional travel is required based on court appearances and organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary in-house legal counsel for all labor and employment law matters
  • Represent the organization in court arbitrations mediations and administrative proceedings
  • Manage and oversee employment-related litigation including coordination with outside counsel as needed
  • Develop implement and oversee company-wide compliance programs and policies
  • Partner closely with the HR Director on employee relations investigations disciplinary actions and terminations
  • Advise leadership on wage and hour laws discrimination claims retaliation issues and workplace regulations
  • Support collective bargaining union matters and labor negotiations as applicable
  • Monitor changes in labor and employment law and ensure organizational compliance
  • Provide legal training and guidance to management and HR teams
  • Handle regulatory inquiries and audits at the federal state and local levels

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in New York
  • 7 years of experience in labor and employment law (in-house or law firm experience)
  • Strong background in employment litigation and regulatory compliance
  • Experience advising organizations with large multi-level workforces
  • Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Strong judgment organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel as needed for court appearances or organizational matters
