About the position
A temporary position as Ph.D. fellow (doktorgradsstipend) in the Cell Signalling and Immune Regulation Group (Group Leader Prof. Kjetil Taskén) Dept. of Cancer Immunology Institute for Cancer Research (ICR) Oslo University Hospital Radiumhospitalet is available for a period of three years.
The main focus of the group is to understand tumor immune evasion mechanisms and how we can interfere to boost anti-tumor immunity. We want to define future precision immune-oncology strategies. We also work with signaling networks anchoring and localization of signaling complexes and their drug targeting. Lastly we work with cancer drug sensitivity screening to explore individual drug responsiveness and resistance patterns in patient cancer cells and for use in precision cancer medicine (PCM) in oncology and hematology. The enthusiastic research team of approx. 15 people is highly international and conducts research in close collaboration with international collaborators.

Job description
The Ph.D. fellow will carry out a project entitled Modulating the tumor microenvironment to boost the effect of CAR-T therapy in solid tumors financed by the Regional Health Authority for South-Eastern Norway (HSØ) as part of the groups research programme to understand tumor immune evasion mechanisms. We want to test strategies to block immune evasion and explore effects on combination with cell therapy by CAR-T using established models.
Work tasks:
- Examination of the effect of CAR-T cells directed to defined antigens and where tumor immune evasion pathways have been genetically disrupted.
- Examination of the effect of pharmacological antagonists perturbing the same pathways on CAR-T function both in model systems and humanized models.
- Independent planning and execution of experiments.
Qualification requirements
We seek a structured and sociable person who can work independently and in the team. The successful candidate should have the following qualifications and skills:
- A . or M.D. degree (or similar) and expertise in immunology cancer biology molecular medicine or a similar area is a requirement. Grades must be compatible with the University of Oslo Faculty of Medicines requirements for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
- A CAREiN (FELASA-C) licence for animal experimentation is necessary and prior experience with animal work a benefit.
- Competence and experience with T cell immunology flow cytometry and T cell immune function assays and or cell therapy strategies would be a benefit.
- Molecular biology and biochemistry experience would be a benefit.
- Candidates with good ability to communicate in English both orally and writing will be preferred.
- Personal suitability will be considered.
Personal skills
The candidate should be highly motivated and dedicated and possess excellent team working and communications skills.
