Summary:
The Principal Planning Officer will support the Team Leader in managing workload and supervising staff within the Development Management area teams. The role involves providing high-quality specialist planning assessment and decision-making on complex high-profile and strategically important development proposals ensuring compliance with planning legislation and local policy while supporting the regeneration of the borough.
Responsibilities:
- Act as lead case officer for complex high-profile and strategic planning applications and pre-applications
- Support the Team Leader in managing workloads supervising staff and delivering team objectives
- Provide specialist professional planning advice and technical assessments in line with statutory requirements
- Lead on complex planning appeals public inquiries and examinations acting as the Councils expert witness
- Manage and project-lead major development proposals ensuring statutory timescales are met
- Prepare present and defend reports and recommendations at committees and senior officer level
Qualification:
- Town Planning or similar qualification at post graduate level and
eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
Essentials:
- Significant experience in Development Management within a local authority or similar urban setting
- Strong knowledge of planning legislation and national regional and local planning policy frameworks
- Experience handling complex major or politically sensitive planning applications and appeals
