The Vice President of Prudential Government Affairs leads the planning representation and execution of key retirement-focused federal government relations strategies for Prudential in full collaboration with the business and relevant internal teams. The position will also serve as an integral member of the government affairs team (External Affairs) in representing Prudentials retirement policy interests with key third parties such as industry associations think tanks non-governmental organizations etc. Insurance and technology policy verticals as set by federal regulators and Congress could also fall into the purview of this position dependent on experience. Reporting to Prudentials Head of U.S. Government Affairs this position is based in Washington DC and operates as an individual contributor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leverage policy expertise and professional networks to advocate constructively and effectively for Prudentials positions on retirement-related public policy.
Maintain and grow a well-established and bipartisan network of policymakers and influencers in Congress federal agencies industry groups associations and other third parties to strengthen the companys advocacy.
Work collaboratively with internal teams to manage a critical federal policy portfolio enabling clear and effective advocacy across all stakeholders.
Communicate promptly and professionally with colleagues and leaders about legislative regulatory or policy developments affecting our business corporate functions or customers to ensure timely influence on outcomes.
Coordinate efforts seamlessly with peers in External Affairs contributing to a high-performing and collaborative team.
Strategically engage external lobbyists trade association resources and political action committee contributions to meet the companys legislative and regulatory objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least ten years of relevant experience in government affairs and/or government roles.
Deep knowledge of the legislative and federal regulatory processes.
Substantial expertise in federal retirement policy. Experience in federal insurance and financial services policy is beneficial. Finance or accounting backgrounds are advantageous.
Excellent interpersonal skills able to build rapport credibility and maintain a broad network of contacts.
Executive presence with the ability to engage business partners senior executives and top public policy figures.
A strong commitment to teamwork and a demonstrated capacity to collaborate across teams departments and industry boundaries.
Strong situational awareness in meetings and interpersonal interactions adapting communication styles to fit the audience.
Strategic thinker and planner creative problem solver capable of developing and executing plans and proposals.
Superior leadership skills driving initiatives among internal and external stakeholders.
Exceptional persuasion and negotiation abilities.
Outstanding analytical written and verbal communication skills.
Proven record of advancing agendas that achieve successful policy results aligned with business and corporate goals.
Solid organizational skills adept at managing multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
Highly self-motivated with sound judgment trustworthiness initiative and the ability to handle several urgent issues simultaneously.
What we offer you:
Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $192900.00 to $289300.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location candidate experience and skills.
