Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineers are part of Ford Motor Companys Product Development organization and are co-located in the Vehicle Assembly Plant with the vehicle manufacturing team.

The PVT Engineer is the first line of defense regarding functional system quality for the products produced at the assembly plant. The PVT Engineer has several responsibilities associated with analyzing understanding and resolving quality issues.

This position is within the Internal-Combustion Powertrain Thermal Systems Engineering (IPTSE) Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineering (VPSE) and Underbody Systems Engineering (UNSE) PVT Team for all vehicle lines produced at Ohio Assembly Plant (OHAP).



Responsibilities

Quality

  • Own cascaded functional quality objectives (R/1000 and CPU). Cut-off and contain issues before they leave assembly plants. Solve chronic and acute quality issues to establish real corrective actions.

  • Lead Issue Resolution and Insights System (IRIS) warranty binning and analysis. Contact dealers to gather repair understanding. Use sound engineering judgement to help review part returns and determine next steps.

  • Support the Variability Reduction Team (VRT) meetings with manufacturing co-leads.

  • Support and present issue findings in quality forums including Functional Quality Reviews (FQR) Director Quality Reviews (DQR) plant quality meetings and Vehicle Quality Reviews (VQR) as required.

  • Prepare functional problem-solving documents to support issue resolution with cross-functional team members (CCC 6-Panel 8-D 5 Why Fishbone etc.).

  • Supplier support - timing plans PPAP review robustness actions both for Ford and to help reduce quality rejects (QRs). Lead is Fords Supplier Technical Assistant (STA) Resident or STA Central Quality.

  • Supplier QOS support - includes regular supplier site visits for key/ problem suppliers. Lead is STA Central Quality along with Site STA.

  • Stop Ship support and prevention: Identify issues coordinate subject matter experts advise severity and next steps/containment interface with Fords critical concern review group (CCRG). Prepare repair procedures for units contained at the assembly plant.

  • SIMPSN (6-Sigma / 8D) project lead and Problem Resolution for low time in service warranty (except Supplier Quality)- communication and coordination with VFG/Plant/Others author projects manage implementation calculate impact manage function warranty forecast.

  • STA support - help review 8Ds on select high-impact issues help author BSAQ projects and close them out advise and monitor supplier robustness changes. Lead is STA Central Quality.

  • Plant issues - support/provide IQ direction (what/where to measure etc) process walk support and advise QOSC/QPIP ICA implementation until permanent corrective action (PCA) is available. PCA lead will be the design & release (D&R) engineer for Design STA for Supplier Quality and the VRT for plant-related issues.

  • Support Plant FTT improvements.

Change Management

  • Lead in-plant trials for design driven Engineering Change Notice (ECN) changes and assess impact to quality and production. Provide input as part of PPAP completion.

  • Lead in-plant trials for supplier driven changes and assess impact to quality and production. Provide input back to component suppliers as part of PPAP completion.

  • review and sign-off on supplier requests for component changes (SREA) run trials as required.

  • TVM support (ECN trials issue clean up PPAP completion) PPAP.

Launch Support

  • Major launch - Support launch team prior to OKTB 30 days and transition to lead on issue resolution post OKTB 30 days.

  • Minor launch - May lead some selected small-scale programs/added starters upon agreement with OPD/PVT Leadership.

  • AIMS/DEMS - Lead for minor launches support for major launches and take the lead after OKTB.



Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (mechanical electrical etc.)

  • 5 years experience /Quality/Program Engineering
