Main Purpose of Job

Supervise and train Correctional Supply Officers in the maintenance and distribution of supplies materials and equipment required for operation of a correctional institution. Supervise warehouse operations to include the ordering receiving storing issuing and warehousing of inventory stock; train and supervise incarcerated individuals in the performance of the aforementioned activities; supervise the processing of incarcerated individuals welfare requests and receipt/distribution of incarcerated individuals packages.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Supervises lower-level Correctional Supply Officers engaged in storekeeping and warehousing at an adult correctional facility by training new workers; assigning and reviewing work; recommending hiring promotions and disciplinary actions; explaining policies; approving leave; and performing formal performance evaluations;
  • Receives and processes requisitions for stock replacement from agency personnel in order to monitor the flow of supplies throughout the various departments;
  • Disburses and accounts for supplies materials and equipment issued to incarcerated individuals and agency personnel in order to prevent theft and maintain fiscal and security controls;
  • Contacts vendors in order to obtain bids or resolve questions concerning supply purchases;
  • Supervises incarcerated individual workers in order to prevent theft identify and report any breaches of security and evaluate job performance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Experience: Two years of experience involving the custody security and supervision of adult inmate workers in storekeeping or warehousing operations at a correctional facility.

Notes:

1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article Section 8-209 Annotated Code of Maryland.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of experience working in a warehouse setting
- Two years of experience in inventory and ordering supplies/equipment

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Some positions in this classification may require the operation of a motor vehicle for the transportation of incarcerated individuals or supplies. Employees assigned such duties will be required to acquire the appropriate Maryland drivers license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for institutional support staff during their probationary period (Correctional Services Article Section 8-209 AnnotatedCode of Maryland). Selection standards for institutional support staff training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12 Subtitle 10 Chapter 01 and include the following:

U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
Must be at least 21 years of age
Oral interview
A completed background investigation
Physical examination.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09 Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
