Job Summary

Position Description:

The Dean of the Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management serves as the primary ambassador for Vanguard Universitys Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management as well as the schools chief academic and administrative officer. As such the Dean is responsible for all educational and operational activities of the School of Business and Management. The Dean lead the vision and strategy for the School of Business and Management leading the faculty and staff of the school in fulfilling Vanguard Universitys mission and pursuing its vision and continually advancing the school forward in educational impactand innovative growth borne of a collaborative healthy faculty and staff culture. The Dean reports to the Provost Vice President of Academic Affairs and is a member of the Academic Leadership Council (the Provosts senior leadership team).

The Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management serves over 500 students in an array of residential and online programs. Undergraduate offerings include on-campus bachelors degrees in Business Administration Digital Marketing and Public Relations Accounting and Communication online bachelors degrees in Business Administration and Management and multiple undergraduate minors including Sports Media. The school also offers masters degrees in Organizational Psychology and Accounting.

The Dean will demonstrate leadership by assembling and continually developing a first-class faculty and engaging strategic planning and program development to ensure relevant rigorous programs that align with Vanguards identity as a Christ-centered institution preparing students for Spirit-empowered life of Christ-centered leadership and service. Working with key external constituencies as an ambassador the Dean will lead the Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management in cultivating relationships with business and community leaders to extend the schools reach enlarge the schools network and expand institutional support. The Dean will lead efforts with the university community and external stakeholders to implement the schools vision. Position begins July 1 2026 though if circumstances allow the role could be filled prior to that date. Applications will be reviewed starting January 20 2026 and the search process will continue until the position is filled.

Essential Functions:

Key Ambassador for the School of Business and Management 50%:

  • Embody promote and articulate the mission vision and identity of Vanguard University and the Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management
  • Represent Vanguard University and the Patty Arvielo School of Business and Management to key constituencies including businesses non-profit leaders business associations (such as the Orange County Business Council) alumni donors peer institutions and relevant scholarly societies establishing effective relationships of trust and confidence with external constituencies to promote academic programs while representing the faculty and university.
  • In conjunction with the Office of University Advancement and other colleagues cultivate relationships with and seek the support of alumni and business leaders locally nationally and globally that benefit the schools students and faculty.
  • Partner with Career Services to expand employer relations locally nationally and globally.
  • Offer voice to key business and leadership issues and promote the mission and identity of the School of Business and Management on campus and around the world via speaking events articles conference participation etc.

Chief Academic Officer for the School of Business and Management 30%:

  • Provide strategic oversight of the Schools academic programs and personnel in its undergraduate and graduate level education.
  • Work with University leadership to continually develop and strengthen academic programming that is rigorous relevant innovative and accessible to future business and non-profit leaders.
  • Advance innovation in academic programming through creative partnerships and continuous approaches to curricular improvement.
  • Recruit and retain a top-notch faculty by providing leadership supervision mentoring and coaching to faculty.
  • Promote the integration of faith learning and living among faculty and students.
  • Oversee accreditations re-accreditations program reviews and ongoing educational assessment within the School.
  • Model effective teaching and servant leadership by teaching 6-12 units a year in courses fitting the Deans subject matter expertise.

Chief Administrative Officer for the School of Business and Management Member of Academic Leadership Council 20%:

  • In collaboration with the President Provost and faculty develop and pursue a strategic plan for the School that identifies key priorities and commitments for the growth of the School.
  • Serve on the Academic Leadership Council working collaboratively with the deans of the other schools and colleges on academic strategy academic culture program development joint teaching opportunities and budget efficiencies toward the betterment of the University as a whole.
  • Lead the School with an eye toward fiscal health including achieving revenue targets developing external funding from private donors and foundations and effectively stewarding budget resources.
  • Ensure the School of Business and Management and academic program marketing align with the mission and ethos of Vanguard University.
  • Supervise directly staff and resident faculty within the School and indirectly supervise part-time and adjunct faculty through Chairs and Program Directors.
  • Recruit develop and supervise administration and staff within the School.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Provost Vice President of Academic Affairs.

  • Bachelors degree required; Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • Effective business experience or significant executive experience with proven ability to cast vision relate effectively with others and build teams.
  • Ability and devotion to embrace uphold and preserve Vanguards Assemblies of God theological distinctives including the Pentecostal heritage of Spirit-empowered life and thought.
  • Demonstrated commitment as a team player to support and collaborate with senior leadership and faculty colleagues.
  • Able to winsomely articulate the Schools vision and mission as well as program needs that would provide rationale and impetus for institutional and external funding and partnerships.
  • Excellent strategic and operational planning/budgeting skills.
  • A commitment to spiritual and organizational health that is expressed in organizational effectiveness stewardship of resources collegiality and personal well-being.
  • Demonstrated practice of servant transformational leadership that connects with the shared needs values and aspirations of others and brings out the best wisdom and gifts of all participants in a highly collaborative and productive community.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that will result in effective collaboration with faculty and key campus stakeholders for strategic thinking team building and managing differences.
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence including self and relational awareness.
  • Visible commitment to practice righteousness and justice in dealing with one another to help those in need and to seek reconciliation when personal differences arise.
  • Regular participation in worship and service within a local church community.
