ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Artera is seeking a mid-level Product Designer to tackle all aspects of the design process. This is a multidisciplinary role that includes research interaction design prototyping and visual design while working with agile cross-functional teams across multi-device experiences.

We are looking for a product-minded designer who is able to look deeply at holistic user experiences device ecosystems and be able to align that to business objectives. This means exercising good judgment in assessing inputs from teammates synthesizing these inputs into complete designs and prioritizing tasks based on desired outcomes.

This role will contribute to how we define design processes interaction models and visual systems in service of creating exceptional digital product experiences.

Responsibilities

    • Agile Collaboration & Problem Solving: Work directly with product management and engineering in an agile environment to solve complex design challenges.
    • Full-Stack UX/UI Delivery: Support the team as needed with wireframes flow diagrams rapid prototypes and visual design to help communicate and validate design ideas.
    • User Research & Usability Testing: Facilitate user research in collaboration with the team to validate prototypes and conduct ongoing usability testing of the working software.
    • Strategic Design Communication: Effectively communicate research findings conceptual ideas detailed design and design rationale both verbally and visually.
    • Design Operations & Quality Assurance: Manage the design process drive decisions track issues and assist in estimating resource needs and schedules. Work closely with the engineering team to ensure the integrity of interaction and visual design specifications.
    • Inclusive Design & Accessibility Advocacy: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that accessibility is integrated into all stages of the product development cycle.

Requirements

    • Professional Experience: 4 years of working experience in designing digital products from concept to implementation.
    • End-to-End Design Mastery: A design portfolio or case studies that demonstrates outstanding interaction design skills from architecture flow mapping to prototyping as well as a thorough understanding of graphic design page layout and typography.
    • Strategic Tooling & Fidelity: Comfortable working in both low and high fidelity with a keen sense of what tool(s) to choose to clearly communicate ideas or solutions.
    • Design Advocacy & Storytelling: Ability to articulate the process approach and impact of designs.
    • Research-Driven Strategy: Ability to plan and execute user research programs that inform product design and strategy.
    • Design Systems Thinking: Experience designing within and contributing to a Design System.
    • Adaptive Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguous environments including adapting to new challenges scenarios and working styles.
    • Accessibility & Inclusive Design: Familiar with accessibility guidelines and best practices including WCAG 2.1 and be able to design and test for accessibility throughout the design process.

Interview Process

    • We want this to be a fast transparent and mutually beneficial process. Here are the steps you can expect:
    • Introductory Call with Talent Acquisition (20-30 min): A quick chat to learn about your background understand your career aspirations and share detailed insight into the Product Designer role team structure and our high-performance culture.
    • Hiring Manager Video Interview (45 min): A deeper conversation focused on your motivation demonstrating your potential for rapid growth within the Product Design function.
    • Portfolio Review (1 hour): A video interview with a panel of three design leaders where youll have the chance to present 2-3 case studies demonstrating your design thinking craft systems understanding and user research skills.
    • Virtual Onsite (1 hour 30 min): The final stage where youll have the opportunity to meet 1:1 with a product leader designer and an engineering leader to demonstrate your product thinking collaboration skills and prioritization.
$114000 - $156000 a year
The compensation for this role will be based on level of experience and the geographic tier in which you are located. This position also comes with equity and a variety of benefits.
Security Requirements
This engineering role contributes to a secure federally compliant platform. Candidates must be eligible for a government background check and operate within strict code management access and documentation standards. Security-conscious development and participation in compliance practices are core to the role.

OUR APPROACH TO WORK LOCATION
Artera has hybrid office locations in Santa Barbara CA and Philadelphia (Wayne) PA where team members typically come in three days a week. Specific frequency can vary depending on your teams needs manager expectations and/or role responsibilities.

In addition to our U.S. office locations we are intentionally building geographically concentrated teams in several key metropolitan areas which we call our Hiring Hubs. We are currently hiring remote candidates located within the following hiring hubs:
- Boston Metro Area MA
- Chicago Metro Area IL
- Denver Metro Area CO
- Kansas City Metro Area (KS/MO)
- Los Angeles Metro Area CA
- San Francisco / Bay Area CA
- Seattle Metro Area WA

This hub-based modelhelps us cultivate strong local connections and team cohesion even in a distributed environment.

To be eligible for employment at Artera candidates must reside in one of our hybrid office cities or one of the designated hiring hubs. Specific roles may call out location preferences when relevant.

As our hubs grow we may establish local offices to further enhance in-person connection and collaboration. While there are no current plans in place should an office open in your area we anticipate implementing a hybrid model. Any future attendance expectations would be developed thoughtfully considering factors like typical commute times and access to public transit to ensure they are fair and practical for the local team.
