Job Summary

Summary: Assists the Classroom Teacher Special Education Teacher and the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in implementing an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders Emotional Disabilities or other developmental delays. Supervision - Works under the immediate direction of the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Classroom Teacher and Special Education Teacher. - Works under the administrative direction of the Director of Student Services Building Principal and Assistant Principal to accomplish the tasks and duties - Registered Behavior Technician Certification - Have obtained an associate (or higher) degree or - Have at least two years of post-secondary education that is equivalent to at least 48 credit hours from an accredited higher education institution or - Have met a rigorous standard on one of the formal Massachusetts-endorsed Assessments: Parapro or WorkKeys - Experience or training in the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) - MA DESE Certified Acceptable C.O.R.I. and fingerprint report as determined by the SuperintendentPreferred: Pediatric CPR/First Aid CertificationJob Environment - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. - This job is not assigned to a specific area. - Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. - The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. - The employee will have access to confidential information pertaining to students. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position. - Setting up assistive technology for student use - Participating in training/consultation - Reinforcing previously taught concepts in a small group setting - Communicating with liaison regarding progress of students - Documenting student progress both academically and behaviorally - Reinforcing instruction of general education under the direction of a Special Education Teacher - Accompanying students to General Education classroom and providing modifications to instruction - Ensuring safety of students as they use adaptive equipment - Assisting with self-help skills including but not limited to clothing feeding toileting - Supporting students at job sites and/or during a variety of community trips - Participating in student progress meetings when requested and provide input for progress reports and objectives; inform appropriate staff of program changes and updates - Under the direction of the teacher or BCBA completing parent communication logs and district documents as required - Participating in required professional development such as restraint training CPR/First Aid certification and staff meetings and extended day sessions - Demonstrating flexibility when daily schedules change - Assist in the development implementation and evaluation of curriculum programs and modifications including but not limited to augmentative communication devices task analysis and discrete trial materials - Maintaining students program books including but not limited to organizing assessments documenting programmatic changes and conducting reinforcement assessments - Implementing instructional and behavioral programs as designed by the BCBA - Using ABA procedures to conduct and amend student programs and record appropriate data in pull-out and inclusion settings. This includes but is not limited to discrete trials social stories and social skills training - Modeling ABA techniques and provide support for other staff as requested by the BCBA - Conducting data collection at all stages of skill acquisition - Maintains student specific materials reinforcers and programming in a neat and orderly manner - Completing other duties that are designated by the Lead Teacher and/or BCBA Building Principal or Director of Student Services Training - Attendance and participation in professional development days - Participation and completion of De-escalation and Physical Restraint Certification - Participation and completion of online training modules as assigned Conflict of Interest Law data collection and continued Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)Language Skills - To read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions Behavior Support Plans (BSP) Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and procedural manualsMathematical Skills - To add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimalsReasoning Skills - To apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form - To deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situationsAbility - To multi-task and prioritize - To communicate effectively orally and in writing - To maintain detailed and accurate data collection - To use a technology devices such as a desk top/lap top computer and/or tablet - To maintain highly confidential information - To establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with students their families colleagues and supervisors
