2026 STEM Vacation Academy: Elementary & Pre-K INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY Salem Public Schools SY 2025-2026

Location: Horace Mann Lab School

Hours: 8:00 AM 2:00 PM (Includes arrival and dismissal routines)

Program Overview

  • February Academy (Feb 1720): Theme: The Mathematics of Cooking & Baking. Focus: Fractions measurement and math fluency.
  • April Academy (April 2124): Theme: The Mathematics of Gardening. Focus: Geometry standards (3rd5th grade)

Detailed Roles & Responsibilities: All staff working vacation academies are expected to attend the pre-program meeting the week before. Staff are also expected to be able to fully commit to the 4-day program.

Site Coordinator & Family Liaison (1 Position)

Stipend: $1500


  • Logistics Management: Oversee daily operations including student arrival/dismissal procedures transportation communication recess/ enrichment block offerings.
  • Family Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for families; provide daily updates and handle outreach regarding attendance or student needs. Follow up with families around program attendance.
  • Resource Coordination: Manage the inventory of cooking supplies (February) to ensure teachers have necessary materials. Lead and organize cooking activities.
  • Staff Support: Act as a floating supervisor to assist with any behavioral needs or schedule shifts during the academic blocks.

Stipend: $1500


  • Instructional Planning: Work with set curriculum resources to plan for daily academic sizes are set at 12-14 students. Plan for opportunities for support staff (STEM Intern/ Paraprofessional) to provide differentiated small-group instruction within the classroom using the SPS curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Theme Integration: Support in the facilitation of the hands-on Cooking/Baking or Gardening blocks where math is applied in real-world contexts.
  • Professional Development: Commit to pre-program meetings(2) and curriculum coaching session (1) to refine lesson plans and math delivery strategies.
  • Assessment: Monitor student progress in math fluency (Feb) and geometry (April) providing differentiated support for diverse learners by prioritizing 1) a welcoming environment; 2) comprehensible input; 3) meaningful interactions; and 4) adapted text.

  • Family Communication & Attendance : Serve as the primary point of contact for families during vacation week; provide daily student updates. Responsible for program attendance through the Brightwheel App.

  • Student Care: Support arrival/dismissal routines and assist students with transitions snacks and lunch.
  • Communication: Support in class attendance tracking and student support with coordinator and teacher.

Paraprofessionals: (2-3) Elementary/ (2) Pre-K

Stipend: $675-$725 stipend (based on role).

  • Manage student and staff health needs during the 4-day February programming
  • Ensure appropriate administering of medications and general health needs for the building
