Job Summary

Position Summary The Sonographer will provide ultrasound services timely and efficiently at appropriate levels to all patients and in all settings served by the department. The Sonographer will also perform tasks and duties as outlined in the Imaging Services Department s Policy and Procedures and will assist in assigned administrative tasks. Verifies patient and procedural information; prepares patients for exams; educates patients and family members; performs exams; communicates and transmits reports to physicians; complies and organizes data for radiologist; stocks prepares and cleans exam rooms; and transport patients. The Sonographer will maintain clinical competencies through participation in Hospital and Departmental educational and orientation programs. Tasks most commonly performed include: Review computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic interpretation by the radiologist or cardiologist. Use safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff. Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan. Operate or oversee operation of ultrasound imaging equipment to produce images for diagnostic purposes. Position and immobilize patient on examining table. Monitor patients conditions and reactions reporting abnormal signs to physician. Set up examination rooms ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready II. Position Requirements: A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification- American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification-Basic Life Support (CPR)- B. Education: Graduated from an approved Joint Review Committee of Radiologic Technology or Sonography program (JRCRTE) and is required to successfully pass the registry that is administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within three years of post graduation and or cross training. Ability to speak read and write English is required C. Experience: 3 years of clinical experience in ultrasound.
