  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) Medical Intensive Care Unit provides high-acuity critical care nursing to adult patients with complex and life-threatening medical conditions. The RN delivers evidence-based care collaborates with an interdisciplinary care team and manages advanced life-support technologies in a fast-paced ICU environment.

Scheduling & Charting

  • Charting System: Epic (required)

  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted

  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (RN candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility)

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • Active New York State RN License (must be in hand at time of submission; NY is not a compact state)

  • Required ICU certifications per unit standards (BLS ACLS expected)

Unit & Patient Details

  • Unit Size: 16-bed Medical ICU

  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:

    • 1:2 standard

    • 1:1 for high-acuity patients as needed

Patient Populations & Diagnoses Include

  • Sepsis and septic shock

  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)

  • Respiratory failure and shock states

  • Renal failure requiring CRRT

  • Heart failure and preVAD workups

  • Postcardiac arrest with targeted temperature management

  • Multi-organ failure

  • Alcohol withdrawal and overdose

  • Advanced hemodynamic instability

Advanced Therapies & Technologies

  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

  • EKOS catheter-directed thrombolysis

  • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)

  • ECMO

  • Impella ventricular assist devices

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive critical care nursing within scope of practice

  • Manage ventilators vasoactive drips and invasive monitoring

  • Monitor hemodynamics and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions

  • Collaborate with physicians respiratory therapists and specialty teams

  • Maintain accurate timely documentation in the electronic medical record
