Fort Worth Country Day is seeking an enthusiastic student-centered educator who loves literacy and is eager to join a vibrant Lower School community. Reporting to the Head Librarian and the Head of Lower School this dynamic highly qualified and approachable specialist will lead the Lower School library program and serve as a vital member of a four-person library team beginning in August 2026.

Our ideal candidate builds strong relationships with students and designs engaging collaborative lessons that invite learners to explore discover and construct knowledge together. Drawing inspiration from evidence-based literacy practices and active learning strategies they foster an environment where curiosity and intellectual play deepen a love of reading. We value educators who bring a balanced pedagogical toolkitbridging foundational trans literacy with traditional library serviceswhile remaining open to exploring new approaches including thoughtful curation of emerging media and AI-assisted inquiry.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Program Coordination: Lead the library program for grades JK-4 meeting with all Lower School classes regularly to teach inquiry-based research and media literacy.
  • Literacy Advocacy: Foster a genuine love of reading among students and faculty through curated collections book talks and school-wide literacy initiatives that reflect a diverse and inclusive global landscape.
  • Collection Management: Select and maintain the Lower School collection ensuring it provides varied entry points for all readers and supports the divisional curriculum through both print and digital modalities.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with classroom teachers to improve student learning outcomes and embed information fluency across the curriculum.
  • Summer Programming: Coordinate the Lower School summer reading program and staff the library during scheduled summer open hours.
  • Outreach: Promote library services and programs to the wider school community through creative communication and digital storytelling.
  • Partnership: Develop strong partnerships with families library volunteers and consult regularly with the Division Head and Assistant Head.

Fort Worth Country Day is a co-ed junior kindergarten through grade 12 college-preparatory day school with approximately 1100 students and 250 faculty and staff. Qualifications
  • Education: An MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program is required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a school library preferably at the elementary level is highly desirable.
  • Teaching: Prior teaching experience and a proven ability to collaborate with faculty and students.
