GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • Under the supervision of the Manager of Custodial Services they are responsible for basic Cleaning and sanitation of campus facilities.
  • Assure that all trash and recycling is picked up and compacted or baled.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sweep mop and vacuum floors in offices classrooms and residence halls. Dust and wipe down furniture counters and fixtures.
  • Sweep clean vacuum and extract carpets in offices classrooms and residence halls.
  • Clean walls windows light fixtures and water fountains.
  • Wipe down handrails and clean stairs.
  • Empty waste baskets large trash containers and recycling containers both interior and exterior.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms in sanitary condition. Stock paper towels toilet paper and soap dispensers.
  • Responsible for working safely and maintaining a safe working environment

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform other related duties as required by the Manager of Custodial Services or Director of Facilities Management & Campus Public Safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

JOB SCOPE:

  • Perform basic cleaning and sanitation of campus facilities.


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of overall custodial related work.
  • Valid Oregon Drivers License.
  • Knowledge of safety-related methods for lifting and moving furniture and other items.
  • Experience in this type of work preferred.
  • Must be able to speak and understand English.
  • Spanish literacy a plus.
  • Some computer skills desirable.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS:

  1. Communicates with students faculty staff and the public appropriate to the age of the individual served.
  2. Builds on basic learning and carries it from one situation to another.
  3. Demonstrates critical thinking skills in problem solving and decision-making.
  4. Asks questions and seeks assistance.
  5. Takes responsibility to eliminate the source of problems.
  6. Demonstrates confidentiality regarding information pertaining to all students faculty and staff.
  7. Maintains proper appearance and personal conduct for the employees particular job.
  8. Uses effective communication skills taking into consideration body language filters listening paraphrasing and questions with customers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  9. Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment.
  10. Good communication and customer service skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse campus population.
  11. Able to complete OSHA required training programs.
  12. Comfortable working at heights of up to 10 ft. using ladders.
  13. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds occasionally
  14. Must be willing and able to work flexible hours shifts and overtime.
  15. Ability to use vacuum cleaners carpet cleaners blowers and other light manual and powered equipment.
  16. Ability to follow instructions on chemical usage and safety instructions.
  17. Must have good organizational skills.
  18. Ability to prioritize jobs and work schedule.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Exposure to varied indoor and outdoor working and weather conditions on a regular basis.
  • Work is done both inside buildings and outside on campus grounds in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to stoop bend crouch and twist frequently and for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to crawl kneel reach over shoulder height and climb stairs occasionally
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for most of their scheduled shift.
  • Able to work both independently and in a group setting.
