Description

Overview:
The Sport Management program at Methodist University a small student-centered liberal arts university seeks a dedicated and collaborative faculty member to support a growing major/minor. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching curriculum development career advising and service responsibilities that enhance student learning and strengthen partnerships with the sport industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach a 4/4 course load in undergraduate Sport Management with possible courses including:
    • Introduction to Sport Management
    • Event Management
    • Facility Management and Operations
    • Sport Administration
    • Sport Marketing Sales and Promotions
    • Sport Governance
    • Legal Issues in Sports
    • Sport Finance and Economics Capstone
    • Internship/Practicum supervision
  • Advise and mentor Sport Management majors and minors providing academic guidance and career preparation support.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining industry partnerships for internships event experiences and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Participate in curriculum development to maintain alignment with industry trends and liberal arts philosophy.
  • Engage in university service including committee participation student recruitment efforts Sport Management Club activities and campus events.
  • Support program assessment accreditation-related tasks and overall program growth.
  • Maintain an active agenda of professional development scholarship or relevant industry engagement consistent with institutional expectations.

  • Support the mission of a liberal arts institution focused on holistic student development.
  • Build positive relationships with students and contribute to a welcoming inclusive academic environment.
  • Participate in occasional evening/weekend events tied to recruitment alumni engagement or experiential learning opportunities.
  • Assist in promoting the Sport Management program on campus and within the community.

All applications should be submitted through Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Sport Management or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness or strong potential for success in the college classroom.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to teach across multiple disciplinary areas within Sport Management and related fields.
  • Ability to teach foundational and upper-level Sport Management courses.
  • Commitment to the values of a liberal arts education including interdisciplinary learning and student-centered teaching.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a small department setting.
  • Ability to support experiential learning internships and student professional development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate (PhD DBA or ABD nearing completion) in Sport Management or a related discipline.
  • College-level teaching experience particularly in a small-college environment.
  • Professional experience in the sport industry (e.g. collegiate athletics sport marketing recreation event operations facility management).
  • Experience or interest in online or hybrid teaching.
  • Ability to lead or assist with internship coordination and industry outreach.
  • Evidence of scholarship professional presentations or certifications relevant to sport management (e.g. NASSM COSMA involvement).
