Job Summary About the Role

Deliver high quality recreation services for residents visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the Districts safety and administrative policies and procedures.

Knowledge Skills & Experience

This position is well suited for someone with a pleasant and positive personality. Work record must show reliability initiative tact and productivity.

Required: Current student of a university pursuing a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Recreation or related field. Knowledge of youth recreation programs special events aquatic programming social media scheduling and management procedures. Must possess valid drivers license and provide own transportation. Excellent communication and customer service skills are a must Understanding of customer and public relations skills financial management cash handling and computer functions. Ability to interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations. Must have or complete CPR/AED/First Aid Certification and Mandated Reporter certification prior to starting work and within 30 days of hire date.

Essential Functions of the Position

Park District Cornerstones

  • Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park Districts safety and risk management program.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents colleagues the public PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated.
  • Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community.
  • Comply with park district policies and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Recreation the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation the Intern Supervisor and the Registration Supervisor the Recreation Intern shall complete his or her assigned duties to the best of his or her abilities offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish tasks and be ever mindful of the best interests of the Park District and fellow employees. This position is part-time as defined within the Park Districts Personnel Practices Manual. Generally described this position averages forty hours per week on a seasonal basis. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to:

  • Work cooperatively and harmoniously with the general public class participants parents and fellow employees.
  • Display professionalism in oral and written communications.
  • Manage personal schedule combining pre-scheduled activities special events meetings and University requirements.
  • Work with the Intern Supervisor to resolve difficult situations in a respectful positive manner.
  • Attend weekend and evening programs and/or special events as required.
  • Provide timely accurate paperwork and reporting.
  • Complete Cash Receipts Assistant duties such as but not limited to: balance cash receipts and Excel spreadsheets drop off Park District facility deposits to the bank and pick up all bank bags from bank and distribute to the appropriate facilities.
  • Encourage the safety of all program participants and fellow staff by following Park District Safety Guidelines.

Marginal Functions of the Position

  • Plan and coordinate assigned District special events activities and/or projects.
  • Assist with instructional programs and staff trainings.
  • Assist with pool pass sales and customer transactions as needed.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
