QualificationsPosition Summary: The Chief - Proposals & FEED is responsible for technical supervision of proposals and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) efforts associated with the design construction operation and improvement of DR plants and new technology initiatives. As a leader of this discipline the Chief Proposals & FEED Engineering works with other managerial teammates to ensure proposals and FEED deliverables are completed in an efficient manner.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Interviews hires and develops teammates in the department.
- Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline and termination in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Advise commercial engineering projects and Global Solutions (aftermarket) teams as the primary technical resource for Proposal & FEED Engineering
- Coordinate Proposal & FEED Engineering efforts with other departments and disciplines
- Determine plant design features based on client specification and site conditions.
- Understand the duty requirements of major equipment based on plant process design.
- Write technical specifications for plant proposals.
- Review all documents prepared by other disciplines and ensure consistency with plant design and specific scope of work requirements
- Manage investigative engineering studies as requested by clients in support of potential proposal development.
- Review lessons learned from previous projects and incorporate engineering improvements into new plant designs.
- Develop tools and techniques to improve proposal process and reduce response time to client inquiries including but not limited to developing standardized formats for Technical Specifications and FEED packages
- Review redefine and document new work practices to use new tools such as COMOS Integrated Engineering Revit and A.I. to more quickly deliver superior products to clients and internal project execution teams.
- Travel on business trips as required to carry out departmental tasks and functions including client meetings
- Collaborate with teammates to ethically resolve technical issues with solutions that meet the best interest of all parties involved.
- Participate in or conduct lessons learned sessions with department members during and after each project and share this knowledge with the full department.
- Conduct best practices review within the department and use to continually improve the work processes.
- Improve quality of Team deliverables developed during the traditional proposal work and Front-end Engineering Design so they can be used more efficiently during the plant execution stage.
- Developing annual goals and training objectives for Proposal & FEED Engineer Team members that foster a culture of knowledge sharing and measure them on their performance against these goals.
- Conduct training or arrange training opportunities for the department to provide opportunities for personal growth and knowledge sharing.
Skills/Abilities:

- Exemplary technical writing ability.
- Excellent organizational skills
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical Mechanical Electrical or Metallurgical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum eight years of hands-on experience in a technical environment preferably related to direct reduction chemical or steel industry.
- Previous management experience leading an engineering team.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in engineering or management.
- 5 or more years experience with an engineering team management role.
- Understand emissions estimates and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Travel Requirements:
- 10% - 25% International and Domestic with duration up to 1 month based on project demands.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to move around an industrial plant site including climbing inside and around structures and equipment.
