Grade B

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

We are looking for a Crematorium Attendant to join our Bereavement Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to work that makes a real difference to the people and communities we serve.

You will work as part of a team to provide a high quality service to the bereaved and associated agenciesincluding the Clergy Funeral Directors service users monumental masons memorial suppliers and representatives from other City Council Directorates.

What youll do

  • Deliver a professional and effective service
  • Operate computer-controlled equipment essential to the proper performance of the cremation process Work collaboratively with colleagues and internal/external partners
  • Perform chapel duties and the scattering and interment of cremated remains
  • Maintain cremators and crematoria related external areas.
  • Perform other associated duties including grounds maintenance tasks and cemetery related duties
  • Write basic reports maintain accurate records and appropriate administrative duties as required
  • Provide cover at any of the Citys cemeteries and crematoria sometimes at short notice
  • Undertake training to obtain theCrematorium Technicians Training Scheme Certificate of Proficiency (CTTS) skills
  • Ensure work is carried out in line with relevant policies procedures and legislation

What youll need:

  • Ability to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the Code of Crematorium Practice and the fundamental purpose of the Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • Ability to assist visitors / service users being sensitive to the needs of people that are bereaved or distressed
  • Ability to write basic reports
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Current full driving licence
  • An understanding of Health & Safety responsibilities in the workplace
  • A commitment to equality diversity and customer-focused services

Desirable:

  • Crematorium Technicians Training Scheme Proficiency Certificate (CTTS).
  • Experience in the operation of cremation equipment to the standards required by at the Federation of British Cremation Authorities code of Crematorium Practice working within a local authority or public sector setting
