Job Description
Advanced Energy Uniteds Electrifying Transportation team is seeking a summer policy intern to support state-level work on electric vehicles grid modernization and emerging virtual power plant (VPP) policy. This internship offers direct exposure to legislative and regulatory processes utility filings and stakeholder dynamics in states shaping the future of transportation electrification.
Working closely with the Electrifying Transportation team the intern will help track state policy developments synthesize research on EV grid-integration strategies and contribute to projects advancing the role of EVs as grid resources. This position is well suited for students interested in clean energy policy DER integration transportation electrification or the intersection of technology and regulation.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Research & Analysis
- Track state legislation and regulatory activity related to EVs and VPPs.
- Review public utility commission dockets and summarize relevant utility filings or pilot programs.
- Conduct comparative research on state approaches to V2G readiness EV aggregation rules and DER participation pathways.
VPP Framework Development
- Analyze how selected states enable or limit the use of EVs in VPP programs.
- Identifycommon policy levers data requirements compensation structures and regulatory barriers that influence VPP participation.
- Help draft a structured readiness framework that states can use when designing VPP-related legislation or programs.
Communications & Events
- Draft short memos one-pagers or talking points for internal and external audiences.
Interns willworkahybridscheduleand thereforemustbelocated inthe DC MD VA area for the summer a commutable distance to our DC office.A final project will be due from each intern and presented to the organizationat the end of the program.
