The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) seeks a Public Health Communication Manager to provide strategic communications support and project management to the Departments Office of Communications.
CDPH plays a vital role in protecting the health and safety of Californians through the delivery of essential public health services including infectious disease control emergency preparedness laboratory testing capacity and immunization programs.
The Public Health Communication Manager will support the development of vital and rapid communications to the public and will help advance the Departments mission of protecting the health and safety of Californians through essential public health communications and services.
Salary up to $208008.00 annually depending on experience and qualifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist the Office of Communications and management team in the development implementation and facilitation of ongoing public health communications efforts.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure messaging supports the Departments broader public health mission.
- Work with program subject matter experts and relevant stakeholders to translate complex health and epidemiological data into clear public-facing messages.
- Ensure rapid dissemination of accurate science-based information during emerging public health events.
- Collaborate with partners to maintain message continuity and accuracy.
- Support the creation of plans messaging talking points and other communications materials.
- Support cross-team collaboration to maintain consistency and clarity in public health information.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrated experience in digital and social media media relations public health communications project management or related fields.
- Proven ability to translate complex scientific or health-related information into clear accessible public messages.
- Experience supporting emergency or crisis communications.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders including government agencies community organizations and subject-matter experts.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Background in public health communications behavioral health or related discipline.
- Experience with strategic communications planning for large organizations or public agencies.
- Knowledge of misinformation trends and strategies to address them.
- Skilled in media relations digital and social media outreach and education familiar with best practices for reaching target audiences.
- Familiarity with Californias public health landscape including agencies partners and community networks.
- Experience developing or supporting community outreach programs.
Education/Experience
- A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Communications Journalism Public Administration Public Relations English or related field AND at least three years of experience in the development maintenance evaluation implementation and coordination of a public information program or professional experience as a communications project manager within a public health or government organization.
