The new team member who comes in will be responsible for maintaining all of our employee information and will be the first point of contact for all Human Resources-related questions for both Action Traffic Maintenance & Michigan Highway Signs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains all employee personal information regarding employment benefits training and deductions in the HRIS/Payroll system.
  • Track and process information for FMLA
  • Maintain & develop our On-the-job training program including monthly reporting to the State
  • Process all Federal & State Reports such as; ACA 1095B/1095C and EEO-1
  • Maintain employee files in compliance with applicable laws and retention policies
  • Is the first point of contact for all HR-related questions.
  • Conducts employee onboarding for new hires including scheduling new hire orientation assisting employees in understanding pay benefits policies and procedures reviewing and processing forms for accuracy and completeness E-verify and performing driver MVR background checks.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of our HR programs including; Health & Welfare insurance plans 401(k) Applicant Tracking System Onboarding & Offboarding- ensuring all new hire paperwork is completed and sending offboarding notices including exit interviews.
  • Assists Departments with Recruiting & Advertising new positions.
  • Reconciling monthly medical bills against our HRIS/Payroll System
  • Respond to and track Unemployment Claims
  • Apprenticeship and career pathway programs
  • Performance management coordination & development
  • Culture & Branding for the organization
  • Initial employee relations and investigations
  • Policy application and disciplinary guidance
  • Engagement surveys and retention initiatives
  • Leader coaching and documentation support
  • Exit interviews and turnover analysis
  • Culture and communication
  • Assists the HR Director in various HR-related projects.
  • Assists in preparing various reports within HR & Payroll systems.
  • Other tasks/functions/projects as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in human resources payroll or a closely related field
  • Experience with assisting in Open Enrollment presentations processing paperwork and responding to questions (Preferred)
  • At Action Traffics discretion may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience.

Requirements include the following:

  • Good working knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping generally accepted accounting principles and payroll processing.
  • Skill in using office equipment and technology including Microsoft Suite applications financial applications such as databases applicable human resources software and other HR software.
  • Knowledge of employee recruitment and selection compensation and benefits interpreting and applying for human resources programs handling sensitive situations and confidential data maintaining detailed and accurate records and applicable local state and federal laws rules and regulations.
  • Skill in assembling and analyzing data and preparing comprehensive and accurate reports.
  • Multi-task effectively- working quickly and accurately in a fast-paced work environment
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with employees and contractors to the Action Traffic Maintenance & Michigan Highway Signs.
  • Ability to assess situations solve problems and work effectively under stress deadlines and emergencies.
  • Skill in effectively communicating ideas and concepts orally and in writing.

The employee must be mobile in an office setting sit for long periods stand stoop and kneel and use hands to finger handle or feel and reach with hands and addition the employee must lift or push/pull objects up to 10 lbs. without assistance.
