Job Summary

The Position

Class Code 28172: Maintenance Worker

Transfer job postings are for County of Sacramento employees only.
In order to be qualified for a transfer:

1. You must meet the Minimum Qualifications of the new job.
2. The difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.

There are three different transfer types that you may qualify for: interdepartmental transfer interclass transfer and voluntary demotion. These different transfer types are defined as:

  • Interdepartmental transfer - a transfer in the same class from one County department to another.
  • Interclass transfer - a transfer from one job class to a different job addition the difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
  • Voluntary demotion - a transfer into a job class that pays less than 95% of your current class salary.
If you are requesting an interclass transfer or voluntary demotion either action is a change in class. Whether the change is a transfer or a demotion depends upon the difference between the maximum salary rates of the requested and incumbent classes. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.294 or the applicable labor agreement sets the criteria for determining the maximum difference allowed. Personnel Ordinance Section 2.78.228 defines demotion.

Under close supervision the Maintenance Worker performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks with the maintenance of County roads and related infrastructures drainage systems pipeline systems solid waste management facilities wastewater systems landscaped areas and other related facilities.

Special Requirements

Physical Requirements:
In some positions incumbents will be required to perform heavy manual labor which may include such tasks as digging ditches; lifting and carrying of materials including including but not limited to cement bags sewer pipe and sign posts; frequent walking and/or standing carrying or throwing shovelsful of paving material.

License Required:
A valid California Drivers License Class C or higher is required prior to appointment to some positions in this class.

NOTE: Failure to maintain a valid California Drivers License Class C or higher for designated positions constitutes cause for termination from this class in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4.

Minimum Age: 18 years.
