Description of Work

The Piedmont Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician I with growth potential for a fulfilling career in agriculture. Our mission is to serve as a platform for agricultural research to make farming more efficient productive and profitable while maintaining a sound environment and providing consumers with safe and affordable products.

This Agricultural Research Technician I position will support research efforts in the Poultry/Small Ruminants Unit. Our ideal candidate will have skills and experience in general animal agricultural production and will participate in all facets of animal husbandry activities for Poultry and Small Ruminants.

Responsibilities include:
Animal husbandry - Poultry activities such as hatching feeding egg collection and manure management.
Animal husbandry - Small Ruminants activities such as daily feeding cleaning and heath monitoring hoof trimming assisting with birth.
General Facility and grounds maintenance
Ability to work in many different housing environments.

This position will work closely with other research station staff including the dairy and crops team to meet daily demands of research protocols and to contribute to the overall success of the Research Stations goals. This position will require weekends and holiday work on a rotational schedule.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range-$31200-$43000

  • Ability to learn research principles and methods.
  • Ability to learn and apply policy and procedural guidelines.
  • Ability to perform long periods of repetitive reaching stooping standing bending and lifting of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate various tractors and equipment commonly used in a farm environment.
  • Valid drivers license

Must possess the following at the time of application or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment:

  • Forklift Driver Certificate
  • Public Pesticide Applicator License
  • Medical clearance to wear a half mask or full-face respirator with cartridges.
