Securities Trading:
- Identify high-probability trading opportunities and execute strategies including directional trades arbitrage mean reversion and yield optimization.
- Execute calculated positions in both Equities and Fixed Income instruments in line with the firms investment policies as regards the proprietary trading (prop) book
- Generate and submit a daily P&L report and position breakdown to the Managing Director/Executive Director Investments
- Manage open positions in real-time ensuring alignment with portfolio limits and market developments.
- Target a minimum annual return of 20% on the proprietary portfolio with consistent monthly/quarterly performance reviews.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Maintain regular and transparent communication with back-office teams including risk compliance operations and financial control teams to ensure smooth trade execution settlement and reconciliation.
- Actively contribute to weekly trading review sessions and strategic planning meetings.
- Actively participate and report on activities in monthly investment risk committee meetings
- Deliver insightful market commentary and articulate the rationale behind executed trades to relevant stakeholders
Market Intelligence and Research:
- Stay updated on news and macroeconomic trends fiscal and monetary policy changes regulatory updates and company-specific news in the capital market
- Collaborate with the research team to integrate market insights into trading strategies.
- Communicate intelligence guiding positions clearly when required.
- Continuously back-test and refine trading models and risk assumptions.
Compliance
- Adhere strictly to the investment policy document and internal risk controls e.g. position limits and stop loss provision.
- Ensure compliance with SEC NGX FMDQ and other regulatory requirements.
- Monitor liquidity credit and counterparty risks and escalate any breaches immediately.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in finance Economics Mathematics or related field.
- Authorised dealing clerk of the NGX
- CFA or progress toward CFA Charter is an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years of active trading experience in the Nigerian capital market (buy-side or sell-side).
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with trading platforms technical analysis tools and Bloomberg/Reuters terminals.
- Deep understanding of NGX FMDQ CBN policies and Nigerian market instruments.
