The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence by accident by suicide suddenly when in apparent health when unattended by a physician in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person. The selected candidate will:
- Lead the review and assessment of candidate qualifications ensuring timely referral of highly qualified resumes to hiring managers for further evaluation.
- Oversee follow-up communications with candidates to ensure completion of onboarding milestones within established timelines proactively identifying and resolving delays.
- Facilitate and deliver agency-specific orientation sessions for new hires providing guidance resources and ongoing support to promote a successful transition.
- Prepare job offers release letters and other formal correspondence ensuring accuracy clarity and alignment with agency policies.
- Represent the agency at job fairs and recruitment events to strengthen talent pipelines and promote organizational visibility.
- Coordinate and participate in interviews as the HR representative offering structured support to hiring managers and candidates throughout the selection process.
- Partner closely with hiring managers to confirm start dates and ensure a seamless onboarding experience for new employees.
- Manage processing of candidates to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) for employment clearances and medical processing.
- Administer civil service list actions in accordance with agency and citywide regulations ensuring full compliance.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with HR partners across the Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) DOHMH the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and other relevant agencies.
- Process DP-2001s DP-72s and perform essential timekeeping functions including overtime requests punch corrections and timesheet submissions/adjustments to support accurate payroll and attendance management.
- Provide leadership and supervision to staff as needed offering guidance training and support to ensure high-quality performance and service delivery.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to advance recruitment operations HR initiatives and overall agency effectiveness.

Selected candidates will be required to provide a DNA sample by swabbing.
This position has been identified as essential. During emergency events essential positions may require 24-hour availability.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
