Mason Athletics serves 500 student-athletes in 22 NCAA Division I sports. About the Position: The Assistant Womens Soccer Coach supports all aspects of teaching coaching and program operations within a Division I womens soccer environment. Primary duties include coaching and developing goalkeepers and field players through structured training sessions video analysis individualized development plans and match-day preparation. The role contributes to program organization by assisting with operations including team logistics academics travel lodging housing nutrition meals and training equipment. Additional responsibilities include designing and delivering opponent scouting reports executing comprehensive recruiting efforts fostering alumni engagement and supporting the Head Coach in strategic program planning and student-athlete evaluation. The Assistant Womens Soccer Coach requires full adherence to and promotion of all University Atlantic 10 and NCAA rules regulations and compliance standards as well as departmental policies set by the Athletic Director and Head Coach. |
Responsibilities: Teaching and Coaching - Utilizes sound teaching techniques in the conduct of game preparation and practice sessions;
- Assists in making strategic decisions in contest situations;
- Effectively prepares and organizes pre-season and post-season conditioning programs and practice sessions;
- Oversees the strength and conditioning development of the athletes;
- Assists the Head Coach in the elevation of the student-athlete; and
- Stays aware and maintains a safe and healthy environment for the student-athletes.
Department University Conference and NCAA Compliance - Abides by and promotes the aims goals and objectives established by the Athletic Director and Head Coach;
- Abides by and promotes the policies guidelines rules regulations and criteria established by the Athletic Director and Head Coach for the student-athlete;
- Knows understands and assures that the student-athletes abide by all the University Atlantic 10 and National Collegiate Athletic (NCAA) Rules and Regulations;
- Knows understands and abides by all University A10 and NCAA Rules and Regulations;
- Stays aware and abides by the rules of confidentiality (Buckley Amendment);
- Understands and abides by proper procedures of due process in dealing with the student-athlete and staff;
- Follows the administrative procedures established by the University and written up in the Department Staff Handbook; and
- Assists Head Coach in developing and implementing the overall recruiting strategy to effectively recruit the best student-athlete within the admissions financial and regulatory constraints established by the University A10 and NCAA.
Acts as Team Liaison to - Equipment office staff orders monitors and controls all team equipment;
- Business Office and Coaches Support Assistant on program operations logistics planning and team travel; and
- Academic Services (study hall and tutoring).
Fundraising - Participates in fundraising efforts and special events.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President/Director of Intercollegiate Athletics or Sport Administrator |
Required Qualifications: - Masters degree or training and work experience at a level that equates to degree;
- Competitive collegiate soccer experience;
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to adhere NCAA Conference and Commonwealth rules and regulations;
- Ability to work with sensitive private student-athlete information;
- Valid drivers license: must currently possess an appropriate active valid motor vehicle operators license that meets all of GMUs requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Masons Vehicle Use Policy 1411 The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the drivers licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review; and
- CPR/AED Certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: - Masters degree in related field;
- US Soccer/UEFA;
- Demonstrated experience coaching or assisting at the high school and/or college level (typically two or more years);
- Ability to work with diverse populations;
- Demonstrated ability to fundraise; and
- Demonstrated ability to recruit on- and off- campus soccer players.
