How youll contribute
A successful Nurse Extern under the direction of the Registered Nurse:
- Basic Life Support
- Participates in Patient Care Teams delivery of personalized efficient care with respect for patients spiritual and cultural differences.
- Considers factors related to safety effectiveness and cost in delivery of patient care.
- Orients patient and family to room and call bell.
- Upon admission obtains initial vital signs height and weight.
- Records daily I & O vital signs and food intake into Conemaugh Connect electronic health record.
- Transports patients via appropriate means in a safe dignified manner. Adheres to patient activity restrictions.
- Establishes positive relationships with patients/families and reports patient/family concerns accurately and concisely to appropriate care team members.
- Maintains positive interactions with staff on other nursing units and diagnostic testing areas.
- Assists members of the health care team with specific tasks that support patient care services.
- Screens the patients for pain and promptly reports the complaint of pain to the nurse.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patients hospital and employee related information.
- Assists the nurse in providing patient treatments and diagnostic procedures as directed.
- Attends CEP (Clinical Excellence Practicum) annually and demonstrates required competencies.
- Annual 1:1 education Handle with care course.
- Completes required education and CPR.
- Commits to Common Ground Code of Conduct.
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities unit and hospital based as directed.
- Actively participates in Patient Satisfaction initiatives
- Prepares maintains applies and removes cardiac monitoring leads.
- Responds promptly to calls from Central Monitors and replaces electrodes/leads/monitor batteries as needed.
- Adheres to patient activity restrictions.
- Prepares equipment and cleans equipment after patient use covers the equipment using a clear plastic bag and tagging with a clean sticker.
- Adheres to Bloodborne Pathogen guidelines.
- Performs the 5 moments of hand hygiene.
