JOB SUMMARY
Direct support for Anne Arundel County Public Schools vision of Elevating All Students and Eliminating All Gaps. Provides leadership for and management of the high school athletic program. This includes but is not limited to: oversight of all athletics tryouts practices and contests adherence to county state and national policies and guidelines management of the athletic schedule hiring and evaluating coaches and support staff under the direction of the principal management of athletic facilities and equipment. Provides for instruction of student-athletes by developing selecting and modifying appropriate plans and materials to meet the needs of all student-athletes. This position may require teaching responsibilities as per school administration but will not be required to complete Student Learning Outcome (SLOs). The position will require flexible evening and weekend work hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates with administration the athletic trainer coaches and other staff to develop and implement safety protocols for all student-athletes.
  • Ensures compliance with all state local and national policies rules and regulations regarding athletics.
  • Under the direction and approval of the principal facilitates the recruitment hiring assignment evaluation of and payment for coaches the assistant athletic director the athletic academic advisor and the athletic student aid.
  • In cooperation with the principal monitors of the expenditure of funds appropriated to the schools athletic department.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive athletic calendar through collaboration with the school administration the business manager AACo Recreation and Parks AACPS Facilities and Grounds departments and others . Arrange transportation for team travel for all away athletic events.
  • Coordinates facilitates and executes logistics and supervision of home athletic events including event management plans and communication with all stakeholders (officials police workers trainers visiting school etc).
  • Under the direction and approval of the principal verifies the eligibility of student athletes in cooperation with the athletic academic advisor.
  • Manages the purchase upkeep inventorying cleaning storage and care of all athletic equipment. Work with facilities and grounds to coordinate the service and maintenance of all athletic equipment and areas as appropriate.
  • Attends meetings and serve on school-based county and state committees as requested. Use expertise to provide ongoing mentoring training up-to-date resources and professional development for coaches. Serve as a liaison to the schools athletic booster organization.
  • Develops and maintains an up-to-date school-based athletic website and other communication platforms as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelors Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • Masters Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.

Experience

  • Three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience required.
  • Three (3) years coaching experience required.
  • Three (3) years school-based leadership experience preferred;

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Thorough knowledge of the organization of interscholastic athletics in Anne Arundel County Public School System and state policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated evidence of satisfactory experience as a high school coach.
  • Demonstrated evidence in involvement in many aspects of the athletic program.
  • Experience in planning organizing and directing athletic and/or activity programs.
  • Experience in budget development and budget management.
  • Experience in interviewing hiring and supervision of athletic personnel.
  • Committee experience in the Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association (MPSSAA) preferred.
  • Database management experience.
  • Excellent written verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing Microsoft Office Suite Word Excel Outlook and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses certifications and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) Certification issued by National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) required.
  • Within 5 years obtain Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) Certification issued by National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) required.
  • Hold or be eligible for First Aid Certification issued by American Heart Association Inc (AHA) or American Red Cross authorized training centers required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification issued by American Heart Association Inc (AHA) or American Red Cross authorized training centers required;
  • Hold or be eligible for Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification issued by American Heart Association Inc (AHA) or American Red Cross authorized training centers required.
  • Hold or be eligible for Drivers License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.

Driving Requirements

  • Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
