The Music Therapy Department at Berklee College of Music houses the Music and Health Institute the Arts and Health Minor and Berklees music therapy degree programs serving as a global leader in the integration of music health and education. Home to the worlds largest undergraduate music therapy program the department is dedicated to educational excellence innovation and a rich history of student-centered learning. Guided by a distinguished faculty and strengthened by the leadership of alumni advancing the field across clinical research community and industry settings the department continues to shape the future of music and health worldwide.
The Music Therapy Department seeks a full-time faculty member to join our dynamic team of educators clinicians and scholars. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching a commitment to inclusive and student-centered pedagogy anthe ability to contribute to the departments expanding work in clinical training interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.
This full-time nine-month appointment (fall and spring semesters) reports to the Chair of Music Therapy in the Professional Education Division with opportunities for summer teaching research and participation in institute and community-based initiatives. The start date for the position is Fall 2026.
Responsibilities
Teach core courses in the Music Therapy curriculum
Maintain a clinical presence through the supervision of students and/or the delivery of clinical services in collaboration with community and institutional partners
Engage regularly in local regional national and/or international professional conferences including research collaborations with other educational or healthcare professionals and/or service to the profession through committee leadership
Contribute to curriculum development assessment and review to ensure academic excellence and alignment with current professional and accreditation standards
Participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives including symposiums trainings and continuing education offerings
Advance the student experience and the mission of the Department Division and
College through active mentorship community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration
Serve on Department Division and/or College committees as assigned
Fulfill the requirements outlined in the Berklee Faculty Contract Agreement including attending department meetings and maintaining regular office hours
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate degree in Music Therapy from an accredited University/College PhD or currently enrolled in a PhD program preferred
Board certification in music therapy or international equivalent
A minimum of 5 years of music therapy clinical experience with a clinical specialization incorporating a music-centered approach. Preference given to those with expertise in medical music therapy
Advanced certification/training in Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Vocal Psychotherapy Guided Imagery and Music or Analytical Music Therapy preferred
Classroom teaching experience including experience with anti-oppressive curriculum development pedagogical best practices and academic supervision
Record of and ongoing engagement in creative scholarship/professional activity
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
Strong command of technology used to engage diverse students and consumers of music therapy

Hiring Range:
Full-time Faculty as of 9/1/24: $56427-$105000
Salaries for faculty positions vary by academic rank; Instructor Assistant Professor Associate Professor and Professor. Candidates are placed into arank following the final completion of the interview process based on qualifications experience and alignment with institutional needs.
