Job Summary

SUMMARY: The Dining Hall Assistant is responsible for preparation of lunch and dinner meals for each cottage (clients & staff) ensuring that assigned meals are prepared and ready for consumption according to the cottage/campus schedule for the day. May be asked to help provide direction coordination and
supervision of residents in the work program in order to ensure clients are learning valuable life skills such as cleaning cooking serving and assisting Food Services team.

This is a minimal one day a week position with more days as needed.

Job-specific essential functions include the following:
- TEAM FIRST: Makes every effort to maintain a team first spirit and atmosphere within the workplace environment maintaining appropriate working relationships and promoting collaboration.
- Maintains a strong knowledge of The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and The Ohio Department of Education and their guidelines manage product inventory levels demand planning and production scheduling.
- Follows any food health and safety regulations as set forth. Adheres to the safety guidelines of the HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control points) plan set forth by CCHO and State regulations. Maintains any training/certifications necessary to maintain compliance.
- Complies with and carries out all Rules Regulations and Laws as set forth from Ohio Revised Code 5101:2-9 Childrens Residential Centers Group Homes and Residential Parenting Facilities The Ohio Department of Education and the Policies and Procedures of the Christian Childrens Home of Ohio.
- Oversees the school breakfast and lunch program. Ensures meals and snacks are prepared and administered to all students in attendance.
- Prepares or assists with preparation of meals as needed.
- Assists with reception of food deliveries sorts all food and distribute all items/ingredients to ensure enough portions for each cottages meals (including staff). Assists with delivery of all menu items to cottages as needed. Restocks the shelves by putting perishables and non-perishables away.
- Participates in the development of Departmental Manual supplements/updates departmental policies and procedures etc. relating to the procurement function (e.g. warehouse Food room laundry housekeeping etc.) in the Residential facility.
- Prepares various written documents in order to respond and/or convey information to the public other state agencies staff and the Senior Operational Supervisor and to maintain accurate records compile data etc. utilizing the personal computer.
- Attends various Departmental meetings (e.g. Daily Briefings Staff Project Budget etc.) in order to share and receive procurement related information questions etc. utilizing the policies procedures and laws that apply.
- Assists Dining Hall teammates in managing/auditing food room and warehouse operations inventories to ensure accountability stock availability budget projections theft prevention etc. utilizing physical inventory reports reconciliation reports adjustment reports etc. as needed.
- Keeps clean and orderly working areas at all times including but not limited to washing and sanitizing dishes sweeping mopping clean stoves refrigerators freezers cabinets tables and work area.
- Ensures that Dining Hall teammates are cross trained on all job duties to ensure coverage during absences. Serve as back-up for other Dining Hall staff as needed.
- Provides direction coordination and supervision of residents in the work program to ensure clients are learning valuable life skills such as cleaning cooking serving and assisting Dining Hall team.
- Assists with organization of campus donations including tracking communication and delivery of items to cottages and staff.
- Tends to maintains and harvests crops from the Garden of Feedin for CRC.
- Cleans and prepares the vegetables/herbs etc. for residents to sample during meals.
- Completes special projects as needed.
- Keeps up to date with SCM (Safe Crisis Management) training certifications and fills in to work in the cottages as a Treatment Specialist when needed.

Other duties may be assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate knowledge of or learn to use common kitchen appliances/equipment especially those found in a commercial kitchen.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions recipes write simple correspondence.
- Ability to use kitchen measurements and recipes is critical as well as to break down recipes and figure amounts needed for servings and portion sizes.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to apply common sense.
- Must be able to communicate well with colleagues verbally/in writing to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite and the internet.
Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment as well as cope and tolerate high levels of stress.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- One to three years of related experience strongly preferred.
- Valid Ohio Drivers License and a driving record that allows that individual to be insurable on agency policy as job includes occasional travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical strength and stamina required for prolonged periods of standing.
- Dexterity needed to handle hot pans broilers fryers sharp kitchen utensils and tools etc.
- Regularly able to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to reach over the head reach at or below the shoulder stoop and walk as needed to maintain kitchen efficiency and safety of kitchen staff and residents.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to drive a vehicle legally and safely in the state of Ohio.
- Must maintain compliance/certification with CCHOs requirements for using physical restraints (SCM: Safe Crisis Management) including sufficient strength and completion of extensive training. Physical ability to respond to crisis including but not limited to running and performing physical restraints.

CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (CQI): All Agency staff are expected to focus on Quality improvement as a part of their job responsibilities in an effort to make the Agency a safe and healing environment for clients and staff. This expectation includes but is not limited to teamwork improving service delivery fulfilling department goals and other job-specific tasks that encourage excellence.

This position is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of all of the following: background checks (fingerprints required) drug test reference checks Department of Justice National sex offender search Ohio (and other states of residence) Alleged Perpetrator Search as well as other checks as required by our licensing agency.



Candidates for most jobs must be 21 or older to apply. References background checks and drug screenings will be completed on all potential candidates. Direct care positions will require a pre-employment physical as required by our licensing agency. Must be able to commute reliably for all on-site positions.
